Watching the first 10 minutes of the Angel Studios Homestead movie(a dirty bomb is detonated in the ocean off of L.A.). I notice different things every time I watch it. The treason I watch it with such interest is because I lived through the coldest part of the Cold War and I remember The Day After and how that could have been real life.It was a very real fear.

Weirdly, when the bomb is detonated:

1)certain things(cars for one thing) still work. The power is out though.

2)The sky is orange in one scene with one family(and the dad is working downtown(?) whilst the rest of the family are in Calabassas. That’s pretty far inland.)

And yet in another scene with a different family the skies are clear(though *is* it supposed to be in L.A.?because the other family they show prominently seem like they also live in L.A. But not as close to the blast.

Of course the bomb is detonated on a boat so you know anyone nearby was freaking GONE instantly.

Was watching Leave The World Behind and I was struck by several things:

1)The son gets bit by a tick and immediately starts having weird symptoms. That’s not how tick bites work(and ultimately the cause is revealed ti be something else;related to why the world has gone to shit.)

2)We get a reveal that it’s some sort of cyberattack..GPS doesn’t work, and neither does the internet and the TB(though briefly the TV -and the radio-come on and we get hints of what is happening. There is a emergency alert on the TV-which stays on for some time.I was thinking it was an EMP(electro magnetic pulse) which might explain the GPS not working but not anything else(cars wouldn’t work for one thing.) The power outage happens, eventually, but not until quite a ways into the movie.

Back in the day we had the constant threat of nuclear war hanging over our heads.I don’t think we realised it-with hindsight-until we were grown.Three words:The Day After.People my age and a little bit older and a little bit younger were *scarred* by that movie.

The sun burning out:Which is pretty final. At least it won’t be hot?

Yellowstone erupting.Which they say is going to happen all the time. When it does, we’re screwed. One HUGE reason I side eye 2012 as a movie is that they are in Yellowstone-right by the caldera-when it erupts.By all rights they should be dead(and one of the characters *does* die.) But others are able to escape in a rickety old RV. Yes, I know, suspension of belief but that is taking it WAY too far.

Asteroid/planetary collision:As with Yellowstone,if you lived in the immediate area you would be killed instantly.Same with an asteroid or a planetary collision. I don’t rate movies like Deep Impact because they are taken as gospel.

The flip side of that is a movie like Melancholia which gets it right. And the B stories, about one sister’s depression and how she deals with that and her reaction and being able to come to terms with it as opposed to her sister who..is very much the opposite.

Suggested videos I have been getting on YouTube lately(and a few other surprises so stick around ‘till the end.)

Bin Stores(factory seconds and overstock. From stores and especially Amazon.)

Overbreeding dogs(as someone who loves dogs and has noticed this..I have to agree.Puppy mills are a HUGE part of the problem.)

Atheism(as someone who is practically a heathen I find this amusing. Also, the videos make some GREAT points about organised religion.)

The shorts videos on Facebook.. I have spent WAY too much time lately watching those. Cooking videos where they make the unhealthiest things you can think of. Cookie dough bars with a Nutella filling and another cookie on top of that. My stomach hurts just TYPING that!

Nutella and banana tacos(the “taco shell” is Wonder Bread.)

Oreo pancake bites-Oreos dipped in pancake batter and cooked and THEN drenched with syrup. Would you like a Pepto Bismol *and* insulin chaser with that?!

RV’s and fifth wheel trailers. No, I have no idea why.Had one show up in my suggested videos and now I get them all the time and, quite frankly I am obsessed with it!

Seriously thee are some TRICKED OUT fifth wheelers out there. All the comforts of home! Lots of storage(if you were doing the RVing thing full or part time you would NEED to be organised and know where everything goes-Doubly so if you have kids or grandkids traveling with you.

One of the fifth wheelers I saw had TWO bathrooms. If you were traveling with a large family I could see that being a GOOD thing And the bathrooms are a decent size, as well as the shower. I even saw a fifth wheeler that had a spare room(I would love that-because a lot have a sort of loft, which is GREAT for kids-or if you’re short-which I am.I guess if I was the only one in the loft or if I had a way to be a bit more private I could make it work.

Most of the RVs ou see are pretty new but sometimes you’ll see an older one which looks very dated(the ones I see for the most part are VERY modern and nice but there are older ones too.Not sure how economical it would be to try and remodel a fifth wheeler

End of the world movies-well some of them-defy  any sort of categorising

But there sub groups and I’ll talk about one here:

Jeruzalem (two friends go to Israel and  wind up right in the middle of the apocalypse .)

Bokeh(couple goes to Iceland and the apocalypse happens.A remote place becomes even more remote.)

Travelpocalypse:it’s  a whole ‘nother category  of movies.

WaWa(Apparently they are expanding to the West Coast and California..and San Diego is one place they are going to have  stores.

HEB(they have AMAZING stores  which are like what we have..but on steroids.)

I forgot to mention the other day that Los Alamos, where the Manhattan Project was headquartered, was also where the remake of Let The Right One In, Let Me In, was set. When I heard they were doing a remake I thought “where in the U.S. is as remote seeming as Sweden?” New Mexico comes pretty close though Wyoming or Montana would have worked too.

I forget where I read this but it was heavily implied that the parents of the kids in the movie, a lot of them, worked for LANL*,*if not their grandparents. And of course the setting is during the Cold War.

In the Oppenheimer trailer there-is a comment about “why would you go to the middle of nowhere?”There wasn’t much to Los Alamos before the Manhattan Project and it’s still a bit isolated . They needed that space because of what they were doing. You notice that when they did the testing for the nuclear bomb they did it in the most out of the way places ,away from lots of people.

*The nickname some working on the Manhattan Project had for Los Alamos.

*Los Alamos National Laboratory.

I love the movie Almost Famous.I know that it is based on real people. But some of those people have a problem with how they were “portrayed” in the movie.Do I think Cameron Crowe got things wrong? For sure he did. But I suspect that for some of the people whose stories he used it’s a “change the names to protect the innocent”(or not.)

This is where I have a problem:
The idea of being a groupie is problematic for any number of reasons.

Some of them being ch*ld r*pe and nonconsen**l sex. The people involved were OK with it at the time(because they got away with it at the time..lord knows that band members were OK with it and they’re not going to be prosecuted-and if the girls-and they were that, make no mistake- were asked to speak out against their r*pists they wouldn’t.Mind you:

I am NOT defending the musicians who did so. Not by any means. The only reasons that those involved are saying anything about it is because we’re many years removed from when it happened.

I’d also say it’s a bit of a stretch to say that there is a whole feminist slant to groupie-ing,empowerment by fucking around. I disagree. It is the polar opposite of a feminist statement.*points at subject line*.

Trying to be a feminist and “make a statement” has backfired.Just look at Riot Grrl. And how.

And also how much I like deep dives, which I have talked about more than once . I have been watching this show called Hamilton’s Pharmacopoeia.

He does a lot of episodes on psychoactive drugs, some of which are supposed to help various ailments. We all know about shrooms, and peyote, and getting a little more out there ,toad licking. Not saying I would do any of these things(but more about that in a minute.) but if they work for others then great. However, not everyone will have the same experience. Do your due diligence, is all I am saying. Add to that depending on where you live it may or may not be illegal(peyote is used in indigenous ceremonies)

I mentioned a moment ago that I said I wouldn’t necessarily try any of these things. I have heard a lot about ayahuasca. Doing some googling reveals that there are quite a few places to do ayahuasca in San Diego. In doing more googling, it might not be a good fit for me because I have health issues that preclude me from participating.

This also being said..at one point I entertained the idea of getting a prescription for medical marijuana for a few things I’ve been dealing with for a long time.

Lord knows I was an awkward teenager-and I’ve talked about that a lot on here-how I was one of the few people in my school who liked Duran Duran.

We’re talking more the late 80’s 90’s today. Sassy magazine specifically.I read a lot of comments saying “I lived in a flyover state and I felt like I didn’t fit in anywhere and Sassy magazine was great for that.” Yeah, OK but there were some problematic issues with Sassy. I admire their attempts to bring second wave feminism to a large audience but,IMO they went overboard with it at times-especially in the case of Riot Grrl where Sassy came in and was acting proprietary over it. Going on about “media overkill”..pot, meet kettle much?they were hardly the only ones overkilling coverage-not even close-but it became a bit precious at one point and then it just all fell apart, and I’ve heard more than one Riot Grrl band member say that Sassy had a lot to do with why Riot Grrl went the way it did. And I’m sure that the Sassy staff know/knew this and were not happy with it But it’s hardly Riot Grrl.

Yes, corporate teen magazines could do a whole lot better when it comes to diversity and at a certain point it did get better.Seventeen tried to horn in on the Riot Grrl trend and got laughed at-especially by the staff of Sassy magazine and a few others. Sassy wasn’t perfect. There were things I liked about it, but the constant bashing of their competition grated, big time. Sassy never was up to the sales level of their “rival” magazines and that(among other things) is what led to its demise(eventually..the HQ moved to the West Coast and became what fans called “Faux Sassy”. The new staff were kinda passive aggressive and posted excerpts of the hate mail that they got after things switched over. I think Faux Sassy hung around for only a few months before it was gone.

That is why I find the nostalgia for Sassy a bit of a headscratcher.

Siberia is a fount of weird shit.

There have been two hiking disasters-both of which ended badly. The bodies in both cases had hypothermia and tissue trauma. They were missing eyes, parts of the head. Why were they not dressed for the weather?

Then there’s the two comets /asteroids that have hit there. One in the early 20th century(you’ve probably seen a picture of it with all of the trees flattened..that was Siberia .Siberia, also, during wars, was where you were sent if you were an enemy of the country. It’s remote, miserably cold most of the year and if they send you out. In the middle of nowhere, nobody is going to know(that’s how it worked back then.)

Nicholas and Alexandra, the last Romanovs, were exiled to Ekaterinburg. It’s a remote area of Russia though not quite in Siberia. They were held at what was called The House Of Special Purpose .Of course, they were all assasinated after some time there.

I bought a new tarot deck and have been reading my tarot. I like, no LOVE it. Also, the cards are designed by a woman of colour.

Y’all know my feelings about ghosts-I definitely believe-Travel Channel showed a story about a ghost that was taking the trash out. At least they were a helpful ghost!

(Kinda related ..on Twitter someone said their kids were asking a spirit(with a ouija board) what its pronouns were. Was/ were maybe ?😃

I DO have my things that I believe in.My last post on this subject was confusing and for that..sorry.

HowEVER:
I definitely believe in ghosts. If you die in an unhappy/unsettled state..

UFO’s(there is DEFINITELY intelligent life out there..a LOT smarter than us!

Ouija boards

Dybukk boxes(see my previous post on the subject)

I do not believe in:
Prophecies(which seem like a whole lot of guessing, especially in the case of Nostradamus and Harold Camping. As far as the Mayans are concerned, it was something that was discovered and distorted ..turns out it wasn’t even the end of the world.. people just freaked out like it was. Hell, I’m old enough to remember Heaven’s Gate..that was fucking shocking at the time that it happened . Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, the prophecies of St. Malachy were rewritten MANY years later.

There are a lot of gullible, easily suggestible people that buy into such things -just look at the popularity of Coast To Coast AM-there are people that buy into that completely. I used to listen to it at night but I don’t think I have in 3 or 4 years now.And I have no interest in doing so. I feel bad for people who are so completely bought in to what they hear on there. Going back to 2012 for just a minute..the host of the show George Noory said he never believed that something was going to happen in December 2012.Well, then why do so many shows on it? Mind you, Art Bell, the previous host, did a lot of the same things. He entertained some pretty bizarre shit at times and I can’t remember if Art or George was the host but there was a lady named Nancy Lieder on his show..I fell asleep listening to the show but when I woke up she was not on there and I was never able to find out what she did.I can hazard a few guesses. Her website is insane( because of an end of the world prediction she told her cult mem..I mean followers to kill their pets, and themselves. There may have been more than one person doing that. When it comes to.. *waves arms* that, some people lose all good sense.

If you know me you know that I am a skeptic when it comes to “out there” things. Things that are more “random guesses” than anything. And if you didn’t know then you do now.

So I taped a couple of shows about Nostradamus and it made me remember why I think all of that is such a bunch of bullshit.

The first example of this that comes to mind is his predicting 9/11.

The second is there is a picture of him that apparently has a picture of a mushroom cloud.

He also said that World War III is going to happen this year.Well, we’re halfway through the year and..nothing.

Similar and related:
The 2012 prophecies(makes me cry thinking about how many trees died so that there could be tables full of books on the subject at Barnes & Noble.)

The Prophecies of St. Malachy In the history of suss, this is right up there with the other things mentioned, to say nothing of the fact that apparently some of the prophecies were rewritten many years after his death.

Fell asleep watching a show about the dybbuk box. There are lots of them out there(which makes you wonder how many of them are legit..however..do a search on YouTube and there are a lot of them out there. And they follow a certain fashion (Hebrew writing on the box, some of them are sealed shut with wax which makes it nearly impossible to open them. Inside they have a lock of hair, a flower, and a object with the word “shalom” written on it(the original Dybbuk box had a object with “shalom” written on it and on the back the Shema(“Hear O Israel, the L-rd our G-d the L-rd is one”)

The first time they made big news was when someone came into possession(a very apt word given the circumstances. The original Dybukk box was owned by a Holocaust survivor.

That. Right there. The original dybbuk box has so much psychic trauma around it(and any of them that have followed in its stead.) Given past history, then, it’s not really that surprising.

(Side note:I definitely believe in ghosts. That’s the abbreviated version of it if you will.)

So when people have opened the box, especially the original one, strange things happen. Health issues-strokes, heart attacks(!)..scary shit. Also smells(most commonly strong cat urine..)

One theory about why this is so intense is that one of the places that the box was is the hometown of the father of eugenics. And his viewpoint became very popular in Nazi Germany . Major connecting of the dots, right?

Lately I’ve been watching the Travel Channel which isn’t so much the Travel Channel but they have a lot of shows about Aliens, Bigfeet, that sort of thing.

*insert Fox Mulder “I want to believe” poster here*

There’s quite a bit of speculation about why this is.

Could it be related to New Mexico, having as much millitary as it does there(including testing for the first nuclear bombs? It is certainly a thought. There are plenty of other places that are remote like New Mexico but they don’t have the things that I mentioned above.

One place is more..visited than New Mexico and that is the area near Area 51 in Nevada(another area where they did a lot of nuclear testing..the fallout caused health problems for quite a large area. Mind you, it wasn’t as populated as it is now(which was the whole point..) And it was a “need to know” sort of thing. You had family who worked for the millitary, you didn’t know it-or they made up some story about what they did for a living and maybe if you were lucky you found out what they did through the freedom of information act.
