Another lunar eclipse and another end of the world prediction. And I KNOW we’ll be here come the weekend.
I mean, if you look up failed end of the world predictions ..there have been a lot of them. 2012,anyone?We’re now in 2026 and still alive.

Amazing how a amazing celestial event can freak people the fuck out.

One of the things that I have on my bucket list is to see a solar eclipse.Unfortunately the next one will be when I am fairly old.

* To do lists.I love a good to do list.

*Exercise, and a good night’s sleep(I really do believe those two things go hand in hand.)

I always think of it when I see pictures or video of St. Peter’s Basillica. Pictures don’t do it justice.It’s even more spectacular in person.

TWO stories about parents taking kids to movies-one was The End Of Oak Street and the other Spider Man :Brand New Day..and being shocked by the content.

Uh..why are you taking a kid of 8–9-10 years old to a scary movie with dinosaurs(not a spoiler.It’s in the adverts.)It is clear from watching adverts for the movie that it is NOT family friendly.The parents’ justification is that it was PG-13 so..how bad could it be? First of all, PG 13’s are allowed one(1) “fuck” per movie.And can be violent.

Even PG movies have something(remember when Disney films were *always* G rated?Now they’re PG or PG 13(I don’t think they have swears..I haven’t watched a Disney movie for a while.)

We’ll call him “A”..He used to be cop in Texas. Well, was until he killed a woman.After she spurned him and because he was claiming the son, we’ll call him “M” was a major deal gun runner(spoiler alert:he wasn’t.)Now,he’s been out of prison for a few years and he apparently has TONS of proof that he is innocent.He’s not innocent, not in the least-but we’ll get there by the by-he is claiming that everything that has been said about him is “tabloid trash”(he’s said that multiple times in interviews I’d heard with him)and everyone was “out to get him”.. Yeah, it most definitely is not. (Would it surprise you to know he’s a M*G*. Conspiracy theories/gun nut.. my M*G* senses were tingling.He’s a walking stereotype of someone from a red state. I can’t believe how many podcasts are giving him a platform.Looking at what they cover, it makes sense that they would,

In any case,the reason that he spent years in jail was because he killed the woman I mentioned-we’ll call her “V” .And trashed both her *and* her son after the fact(why would you shame someone for being married multiple times.It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Pretty fucking petty if you ask me.)

This is someone who had trouble becoming a cop, became one, was fired, and then hired again.Back then there was NO sense of due diligence,otherwise he would not have been in prison for so many years. He was obsessed with V. and when it was not reciprocated he got upset. A. is someone who frequently gets called “arrogant” and that’s a very fair assessment.Though he would say just the opposite(of course.)

K felt like he was justified for doing what he did because she threatened him.Except it wasn’t really a threat,she was upset because K. had arrested her son on bogus charges.Everything about the whole story. Is bogus, the warrant that A signed for her arrest .Where A’s name was whited out.And yet A and several other deputies went to arrest her..and wound up shooting her,once of which was in the face. That is fucking brutal. A. claims that she had a gun in her hand.Yeah, well, can you blame her?If someone was trying to bust down my door, I’d be armed too.Did I mention that this was in a certain red state(which shall remain nameless but if you’re familiar with this case you know who I’m talking about . Thus the reason I turned off comments.Pretty sure A has google alerts for his name so I’ll make it harder for him to find people who are talking smack about him.

(Wrote a version of this but I needed to edit so I decided to rewrite and edit it a bit more.)

Picture it:Me, with a raging migraine.My friend calls and asks if I want to go to a local mall to see an art exhibit.I say “yes”.

Yikes. Memorable,in the WORST kind of way. Had to stop and lay down every 2 seconds .Oh and it was brightly lit which also did not help.(I have been lucky enough to NOT have very many migraines and fortunately have not had the extreme end of it, with nausea,etc.)

Went home, took 2 Excedrin and I was fine.But it was a doozy.And far from the only bad migraine that I have had-found out-the hard way-that cigar smoke is a trigger.And how.Had a week long migraine(yes really) that NOTHING would hit. Yep, that was from cigar smoke.

The White Sox had a Pope hat night-where people got Pope hats-and boy did they ever show out! Chicagoans are(rightfully) proud of the fact the Pope is from Chicago.And did I mention that the first pitch was thrown out by a nun? Also they had a sign of peace at one point during the game(although I would do a fist bump of peace-thanks, ‘Rona!)

*Points at the subject line* there is a marker on the seat Pope Leo the 14th sat in during the 1st game of the 2005 World Series game. And there’s a mural!

Did I mention that Pope Leo is going to be going to South America-and one of the places is Chiclayo ,where he was bishop for many years-and right behind Chicago,the place that was most hype for him becoming Pope.

There’s a book called Catholic catalogue.It covers Catholic life from the beginning to the end and everything inbetween. Baby naming(it used to be a hard and fast rule you had to have a saint’s name somewhere in there*-that’s hasn’t been the case for 40-odd years though.)

Catholic holidays(Day Of The Dead-which is a big deal where I live)

Sacraments(Baptism, First Communion, etc.)

*For example-my brother was born in 1963. They had another name chosen.However,he was born on our grandfather’s birthday(best birthday present ever!) so they had to honour him and used one of his names-Henry- as the middle name-and Michael-also my dad’s name-as the first name. My brother has always gone by his middle name(and to make it less confusing-add to that my cousin is also named Henry. My brother and cousin were in the same room. My aunt was trying to get my cousin’s attention and said “Henry!” and both my cousin and brother looked up like “Yeah?” Lol

*Went to Coomber which is a wine bar with a patio(which used to be part of a car park!).No food, but you’re encouraged to bring your own;I’d already eaten but the friend who I was there with made guacamole and I ate that.I loves me some good guac.

*I am getting a new sofa!It is going to to be here Monday.

*Currently reading a book that takes place in Austin.Having been to Austin,I’m like “OMG! Book People!”(a great indie bookstore there-you should go if you get the chance.)

*A disturbing thing I’ve noticed:My TV-well,the cable-will freeze up.And stay that way for a while.I had this problem with UVerse.However,that required someone-an actual person-to show up to fix it and that-believe it or not-sometimes took days.

On a related tech note:I think I’ve mentioned that my dad has satellite radio in his car.It was on the 60’s channel. We were curious what the “artist channel” option does..turns out it throws you to the Simon And Garfunkel Pandora channel-which has other bands-we heard a Beatles song-besides.

Also,finally watched the season finale of The Vampire Lestat.Let’s go Season 4!

My parents and I went to IKEA yesterday.

A couple of firsts:

1)I did not buy any candles.

2)I did not have a shopping trolley.

Not a first:I bought several Halloween decor-y things. They had some seriously cute stuff *and* it was the right price!

We were looking for a couch(successful)and a new bed(the beds are on back order-we were there when everyone is shopping for dorm rooms(both local and not.)

Kristen Kish does not like smoked fish and lamb, per a recent Bravo after show.

Not the only chef who has some sort of kryptonite-Scott Conant and red onion come right to mind.

Ina Garten doesn’t like cilantro.

Chrissy Teigen doesn’t like hummus.(girl! Send yours my way!)

Ree Drummond, bananas.

Truffle oil /truffles is mentioned as something that is overused/hyped. IDK, truffles/truffle oil are on a LOT of menus but I don’t hate it. I was neither here nor there about it until I had truffle mashed potatoes.SO good! Same with salted caramel. Didn’t get the hype..then I tried it.. and I LOVE caramel. It’s next level!
