Friday: Started out at Banana Dang-a coffee place near my house I’d never been there-I liked it-their choice of music was on point.

Took the train down to San Diego and had lunch at Jo’s diner in Mission Hills. Poked around at M Theory a couple doors down and bought a copy of OK Computer.

Wound up at La Jolla Village Square.Decided to see The Ugly Stepsister. That went until almost 5 and my parents were having leftovers at home so I had dinner at La Jolla Village Square(The Kebab shop-VERY good!)

Saturday:Did my usual thing but..a lot of the evening was devoted to making cinnamon rolls.Which came out REALLY good !

Sunday:Breakfast with my parents and a friend of the family’s(and yes,the cinnamon rolls-which had cherry-tinned cherries-but still DELICIOUS(and they’re just as good left over-can confirm as I had a cinnamon roll for breakfast with my coffee this morning .)

Lunch at my brother’s house-ham *and* turkey amongst other things.Plus my cinnamon rolls for dessert(we also had mini Bundt cakes.)
roaming_kate23: Clarence (pic#14273112)
Friday:Had breakfast at my favourite local place, Beach Break.Found out that they take donations of coffee cups.May donate some of mine and barter for a free meal :)

Saturday:Went to UTC(local mall) to stock up at Nespresso.Had a sample of the coffee that I was going to buy(I would have bought it anyways but I was glad that I was able to sample it.) Talked to the gal working at the store whilst I drank my coffee. She was super knowledgeable about everything they sell.

My dad made his famous chili for dinner.I made corn bread to go with it and my cookies(well, it’s a recipe I found in a magazine which everyone associates with me now!)

Sunday:Home early via the grocery store.
roaming_kate23: Rhodes (pic#14273078)
Friday:Was my Saturday(I’ll explain more in a minute).Got my haircut which i had been putting off for a while. Got a bunch of things done.Bath And Body Works was having a $5 for all body care(body wash being one of them) so I stocked up. Normally I would do my hanging out on Saturday but for reasons that will be obvious(keep reading) it was today.

Saturday:Went to a Holiday concert with my family . I liked it a lot.

Sunday:A friend of the family’s son was getting married so we went to the wedding at a cool old church .Went to the reception but didn’t stay long because it was cramped-too small areas fort the amount of people that they had there. So we left.I’m glad we got to go to the wedding though.
roaming_kate23: (pic#14641909)
There’s some Wednesday and Thursday content in there too. Wednesday we went to Ranch 45(my mom wanted to try it because she is going there with friends .) I had a breakfast sandwich which was REALLY good!

Thursday ,Thanksgiving,we had pumpkin pie from Costco for breakfast .It never disappoints.

In the afternoon we went to Roy’s which is kinda behind the Convention Centre downtown. Our view was of the Rady bandshell and a marina. The dinner itself was SO good! Potstickers for dad and I and a salad for my mom, and turkey dinners all around. Dessert was pumpkin crunch cake..except the cake part was more like a shortbread, which..💯.

We headed over to Fashion Valley and saw Wicked. I liked it more than my parents did.3 hours though!(and it’s only part *one*!)

Friday I poked around Del Mar.And I made cookie dough which I am going to make and give to family and friends.

Saturday we went to La Jolla .Warwick’s to be exact.I was supposed to pick out two books but wound up picking out 3. Had lunch at Harry’s coffee shop which was REALLY good.

Sunday:Home early via the grocery store.

Friday:I had to go to the lab to get my bloodwork done. Had breakfast at Panera.

Headed to UTC(briefly) to stock up on coffee and then over to La Jolla Village Square. I’ve been getting ready for my trip next week.Yes, I am over organised!

Saturday:Encinitas(had to go to Trader Joe’s for their apple cider(a seasonal favourite of mine.).

Made shepherd’s pie(well, actually I made dessert-brownies-first-because those come together *very* quickly) then the shepherd’s pie.(this was my cooking weekend;I made pumpkin bread on Thursday.).I did a new twist on the shepherd’s pie -instead of mashed potatoes I used tater tots and got rave reviews all around!

My brother and his wife and nephew came over for dinner.

Sunday:Home early(via the grocery store).
roaming_kate23: (pic#14700831)
Friday:Ran a bunch of errands with my mom in the morning .

In the evening we went to Addis. For some context,I have never had Ethiopian food before(and I would eat it again!) The guy who owns the place was VERY helpful since we had never had Ethiopian food before.

Let me tell you:This is definitely a different experience.

First of all, the food is served on a huge platter, on top of a bread called injera(think sourdough-I LOVED it! )and the food on top of that.We got a platter of some of the greatest hits of Ethiopian food, including. Doro wat which is a chicken stew. It’s CRAZY good! and a few veggies(collard greens-I think that was one of ny favourites!

Second:There are no utensils! The bread is your fork and spoon-it’s communal eating .This is serious going out of one’s comfort zone but if you’re willing to, it is AMAZING. You rip a piece of the injera and use it to pick up your food.

afterwards we checked out the little grocery store next door. They have every type of ingredient you could need for cooking Ethiopian food. Me:”why does it smell like mass?” I was standing right by incense which is used during Ethiopian coffee ceremonies-also, Ethiopia is the home of coffee! Fun fact!

Saturday:Took the Coaster to Old Town and then the bus to Hillcrest.Hadn’t been there in a while.

Sunday:Breakfast at Denny’s and home via the grocery store.
roaming_kate23: Rhodes (pic#14273078)

Saturday:I took the Coaster to Old Town and then Little Italy.Little Italy was PACKED.. Not just summer, but also they have the Farmer’s Market.

Sunday:Went out to breakfast with my parents and niece and nephew and then home via the grocery store.
roaming_kate23: Noms (pic#13936377)
Friday:I took the train to Old Town and went to India Street.Poked around the British store and had lunch at Shakespeare’s next door.It was fuller than I have ever seen because the Euro Game was on(Scotland V. Germany. Both countries were about equally represented, fan wise.)

Later on we went to see my niece’s boyfriend play -down at Liberty Station.

Saturday:Made topping for a peach crisp(which was delicious!) then went to Del Mar.

Sunday:Was Father’s Day and my mom and I made sure my dad was well taken care of.Whilst my dad was out on a hike my mom and I ran a bunch of errands. We had dinner at my brother’s house(pizza;he has a pizza oven;the pizza was AMAZING. And the aforementioned peach crisp for dessert.
roaming_kate23: Noms (pic#13936377)
Friday:I took the train to Old Town(got stuck in the train bathroom albeit briefly!)\

Tried a new-to me- restaraunt in Hillcrest called Crest Cafe,Some seriously good food and a GREAT place to sit by the window and people watch.

Do you know about the “secret” way to get to Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe?I do!I My dad discovered it the last time we were there(the day of King Charles’ coronation.)

My brother and his wife are in town until Easter and we had a big family dinner with taco soup(perfect for the sort of weather we’ve been having and made by yours truly.)

Saturday:I toured a retirement community with my parents(they’re not ready for a retirement community *quite* yet but they’re just figuring out what they want to do.)REALLY nice..I could see myself living there actually.

Sunday:Went to Del Mar. Had to go to Diesel(bookstore) to find a new book to read because I finished the one I was reading. Found several books which *will* get read(eventually.)

Originally we were supposed to have a barbecue at my brother’s house but because of reasons(weather) it was fried chicken which,I am NOT complaining.

There was a lunar eclipse last night but it was LATE.
roaming_kate23: (pic#14641909)
Friday:I took the Coaster to Od Town .From there I went to Fashion Valley.I hadn’t been to Fashion Valley in an age and it is easily one of the nicest malls in the area. Bloomingdale’s a has a small Nespresso  boutique(I wanted to try the new flavour) which I didn’t care for. Had Sbarro for  lunch ..I can’t remember the last time I had Sbarro..and it was GOOD.

Hazard Centre was next(wanted to to look for a book at the Barnes And Noble there.)

Back to Old Town and the UTC blue line.Needed something to drink so tried a place that had a bunch of different drinks including  pomegranate hibiscus.SO good!

Home to my parents’ house and when I tell you that I I crashed at bedtime....I was worn out from  all of the activity.

Saturday:Started with a stop by a friend of my parents’ house. She is moving into a a retirement community and is trying to get rid of a lot of stuff.

For a change I went to Del Mar. Bought a bunch of lottery tickets and won $20!

Made dinner for my parents and cookies for my niece which  are gong to be sent to her at college.

Sunday:Home early(via the grocery store.)

The Oscars were last night of course. Was I happy with the results?Yes, especially Cillian Murphy. Would have liked to see Lily Gladstone win for Killers Of The Flower Moon. The Osage  Singers were INCREDIBLE. So pleased to see Native American rep on the Oscars.

roaming_kate23: Clarence (pic#14273112)
Thursday:Headed down to  my parents’ house via Beach Break. Got to see  my niece’s studio(which she is getting kicked out of soon..boo!)

Lunch at Spicy City on Convoy-always good and yes, spicy!

Picked up my birthday cakes(I requested  Nothing Bundt Cakes..we got a bunch of them.)

Made Shepherd’s pie which came together

Friday:Was my birthday!Breakfast out and then I got my nails and my hair done.

I was even able to get a nap  in!

The party was a lot of fun, I made Shepherd’s pie which got rave reviews from everyone as did the  Bundt cakes. Got lots of cool presents too!

Saturday:Had my usual Encinitas Saturday(though sometimes I do change it up and go elsewhere .)

Leftovers for dinner(I had a shepherd’s pie frozen  that we has just in case  as we had a few extra guests which I was OK with.) My mom  took some leftovers(and one of the Bundt  cakes) to a friend who has the beer virus.

Sunday:Friends of my mom and dad’s came over for brunch(breakfast burritos!)

Home via Target and WinCo. Dad spent several hours putting my new table and bench together. The bench was easier to put together than the  table and supposedly IKEA furniture(which is what this is) is easy to put together.Sort of,lol.

It’s a unicorn -Weekend Report 2 weeks in a row! This  is the time of year when things get busy so not so surprising!

Friday:I did lots of housework and took 3 bags of books to the little library in my neighbourhood.

Saturday:Decided I needed tot get my gift wrapping done so went to my parents’ house and did so;and when I say “wrapped gifts” I mean that I just put them in a gift bag. Put the gifts under the tree.

Went home via Trader Joe’s(my dad needed a few things as did I..)

Sunday:Much lower key although I did  do a load of laundry and  tried to get some of my DVR’d stuff watched.
roaming_kate23: Rhodes (pic#14273078)
Friday:I  went to UTC (had to go to the  Nespresso store to get some coffee for myself and some coffee for a family member who has a Nespresso coffee maker as a “thank you for letting me stay at your house”. It’s the least I can do!

Saturday:After lunch we went to Julian which is up in the mountains.Except we took the super long way to get there-at one point we were almost at the top of Mt. Laguna but  also in Anza Borrego .Overlooking it actually. We *did* make it to Julian and it was about the busiest I have ever seen Julian(and the last time we were there it was the day after Thanksgiving -you would have thought that  most people were put looking for good deals-and IIRC there weren’t any super deals in  Julian that day. Being that it is a tourist town the prices are accordingly  hight.

There was a place where you could snuggle with  baby goats. When I tell you that I was  very tempted..hashtagawwbabyanimals

Had an early dinner at Dudley’s which is a bakery but they have other things-like sandwiches-I had a French Dip that was more like a panini which I REALLY liked and my parents split a tuna melt.I got a  apple turnover for dessert.

Sunday:Home early via the grocery store.First shop of the north so I spent a fair amount.
roaming_kate23: Noms (pic#13936377)
Friday:I had breakfast at my favourite local restaurant and then headed to Encinitas, Got my hair cut at Supercuts.

This has become much less of an anxiety making thing for me. I ask the receptionist not to give me the hairdresser that I do not like. And I’m sure that she has either overheard me or wonders why I do not ask for her but you know what? She is nor a nice person and I want to avoid her.

Got my Covid booster!

Packed for my trip!

Saturday:: There wasa a solar eclipse -which was so cool even if it wan’t a total one. It got very dusky outside and it was eerie but it is something b you don’t get to see every day!

My mom, dad, nephew  and I went to North Park  to check out Verbatim Books. The best part about Verbatim is that most of the books  are under  10  dollars and everyone save  for my  nephew got a few books!

For an(early) lunch we went to Cafe Calabria which my nephew had been to before and..it’s hard to describe but it feels like you are in Italy-until  you look outside and realise  you’re in North Park!) They have a certification that says that their pizza is made Neapolitan  style(yes this is a thing and several restaraunts in San Diego have that certification!) My nephew and I both had the pizza Margherita and it was SO good.I took the last 2 slices home and had them for dinner.)

Made pumpkin bread and it was..interesting.I was trying a new recipe w here you swirl in  cream cheese and sour cream,.I didn’t think I filled the pans  that full but there was spillover and  it was undercooked in the middle. I wasn’t really following a recipe which may have been part of the issue.

Sunday:Home early via the store. I split a sandwich from the deli with my dad.

roaming_kate23: Coffee cup collection (pic#14273383)
Friday: I went and got my hair cut and ran some errands with my dad. I swear the lady who cut my hair was the same lady I have had issues with at a different Supercuts. If it’s not her, it’s her sister. Would not be at all surprised to find out that they move problem stylists around to different shops.I got the hard sell for the(overpriced) shampoo and conditioners,

(It got so bad at one point at another Supercuts that I mentioned it to someone. The manager knew exactly who I was talking a point which..never a good sign.)

My niece’s high school graduation was in the afternoon and wasn’t that long(just under 2 hours.)

There was a party at my parents house with delicious food.

A friend of the family’s was there and I love her but..I’m putting this behind a cut

Saturday: UTC.I needed to go there because that is where Nespresso is. Got my Nespresso so I am a happy girl! I like to alternate between going to the store and buying off the website. I do like the convenience of buying off the website and it coming right to my house.

Made chicken soup with rice which was delicious!
roaming_kate23: Best life (Default)
Friday:Cooking(Shepherd’s Pie and brownies-one for my parents and one for my niece and her family because it is one of her favourite things that I cook, and also because she chose what college she is going to.

Dinner was from one of our favourite Mexican food places(Cinco De Mayo, y’all!)

Saturday:The coronation of course and I went to Shakespeare’s Corner Shoppe and UTC and took the bus home.Eventually I crashed(didn’t get a very good night’s sleep but Saturday night, with everything that I did, I slept like a baby!.Had Shepherd’s pie for dinner whilst we watched highlights from the Coronation.

Sunday:My dad made waffles and I headed home via the grocery store (spent a lot but that is typical for the first big shopping trip of the month.

When we got home my brother and niece and nephew showed up at the same time! That was a really nice surprise .I did the grocery putting away thing(they stayed out of my way because they were in my backyard taking pictures for my niece’s graduation picture.Hopefully I will get a shout out!
roaming_kate23: (pic#14641909)
Friday:Was at a Target that seemed to get busier the longer I was there.Eventually I hoped out of there. I was having some mobility issues so had to use a scooter to get around .No longer an issue as of this moment though.

Saturday:My parents and I went to Peet’s neat my parents’ house to get me hyped for cooking later(which turned out not to be too bad-fun even!

Cooked-made a sweet potato casserole which is famous is my family, and cranberry relish.

In the evening we went to my brother’s house for a Christmas. Eve dinner(shrimp and pasta which was delicious!).

Sunday: Got up, unwrapped gifts and just hung out at home. Guests showed up midday.I made a glaze for the ham which was pineapple,Dijon mustard and ginger preserves. It got a lot of rave reviews and is going to be better in a few days’ time.
roaming_kate23: Greece 1 (pic#13936376)
Friday:Baked cookies and took them to my parents’ neighbours. Made more cookie dough because I used up everything I had frozen.Easy enough for me because I have made cookies so much it’s a breeze and NOT a big deal for me!

Wrapped gifts(and by wrapping them I mean that I put them in gift bags.I can’t deal with wrapping paper!

Saturday:Hit up a HUGE sale at Bath and Body Works. All of their body care(but particularly body wash!)/And yes, I DID stock up! That’s too good of a deal.I cooked dinner(curry) for my parents and I.

Sunday:Rainy dreary day.And I kinda didn’t hate it. My parents and I went to Spicy City and met my niece for lunch.Spicy City is on Convoy, San Diego’s Asian district. My niece was in good spirits and the conversation(and the food) was delicious.

We had time before we had to meet my niece so we tried to find a bookstore(Book Off) we’d been to before. We ran out of time before we had to meet my niece ..but when we were done with lunch she looked the address up on her phone and turns out that it was a 5 minute drive away. Looked around for 15 or so minutes and then left.

Back home via the grocery store.
roaming_kate23: Pompeii (pic#14273384)
Friday:My dad came and picked me up and we went by Costco. They had a TON of samples and they were ALL on point! Had dinner from Sprouts(a turkey sandwich, SO good!)

Saturday:Had my typical Saturday. Watched an episode of The Great American Recipe. with my parents. If they ever have a second season of that show I am going to try out for it. I think I’d get pretty far(if not win!)

Sunday:Was my dad’s birthday. My mom and I made sure that he was well taken care of. Later on we went to my brother’s house and had pizza(he is just getting over the beer virus so kept it simple and my mom made a sheet cake.
roaming_kate23: Rome (pic#14273077)
Friday:I had to wait around to hear from my parents. They were supposed to be isolating(long story) and couldn’t get them on the phone.Turns out that my dad was woodworking and couldn’t hear the phone and my mom was at a doctor’s appointment.

Saturday:My parents came up to my house to give me a ride to their house. But they got there early and they showed up whilst I was in the bath and when I got out of the bath and their car was there.I made them a cup of espresso. My mom had scones from Panera. A nice start to the day.

THEN, we went to my niece’s wedding shower which was at the Fairmont hotel. It was a tea and let me tell you this :It was INCREDIBLE. Tea, yes, and sandwiches(several different types) and sweets(scones, again, which were actually warm..so good!)

Sunday:Lazy day.I had something I kinda wanted to do but I put it off.Got quite a bit of reading done.Took two naps.
