I love the movie Almost Famous.I know that it is based on real people. But some of those people have a problem with how they were “portrayed” in the movie.Do I think Cameron Crowe got things wrong? For sure he did. But I suspect that for some of the people whose stories he used it’s a “change the names to protect the innocent”(or not.)

This is where I have a problem:
The idea of being a groupie is problematic for any number of reasons.

Some of them being ch*ld r*pe and nonconsen**l sex. The people involved were OK with it at the time(because they got away with it at the time..lord knows that band members were OK with it and they’re not going to be prosecuted-and if the girls-and they were that, make no mistake- were asked to speak out against their r*pists they wouldn’t.Mind you:

I am NOT defending the musicians who did so. Not by any means. The only reasons that those involved are saying anything about it is because we’re many years removed from when it happened.

I’d also say it’s a bit of a stretch to say that there is a whole feminist slant to groupie-ing,empowerment by fucking around. I disagree. It is the polar opposite of a feminist statement.*points at subject line*.

Trying to be a feminist and “make a statement” has backfired.Just look at Riot Grrl. And how.
