Generally I am a fairly healthy person-went to my diabetes doctor the other day and got a good report. He is very nice.

BUT..my GP..he is so uptight He gets alarmed by the slightest variation in normal on my blood tests. And I get it-covering his ass-but this is at a level that I NEVER look forwards to going to appointments with him. TL:DR:He has NO chill whatsoever.Or bedside manner.

It’s time I have to waste getting my blood drawn. He freaked out a little when he thought that I had leukaemia(turns out I had to go to a hematologist and, really, it’s a watch and see sort of thing..)he doctor I saw also said that quite a few people -if you looked at the population-would have slightly abnormal results. not anything that is worth being worried about.

And I won’t get too graphic.I promise.

Honestly, the worst part of it was the prep..having to drink a LOT of it.But it doesn’t taste that bad.I’d say a LOT of what I heard was exaggeration.I also worried that I would feel hungry but that was NOT the case either.

They knock you out-but not completely-and the next thing you know it’s over! They said you may feel a little loopy afterwards but again-I think I must be the exception to the rule!My mom stopped by Starbuck’s Jon the way home and got me a coffee-“You earned this” she said.Indeed I did!

Sometimes your body lets you know what it needs.I had a self care day(went to see Trap and walked around the mall(which by the way was about as busy as I have seen it in a long time.Checked out the new collectibles store which is like if a comic book store and a vintage mall had a baby!)

Health is not just about physical health but mental health too!

Or:GOD I wish that Dreamwidth had “YASS” as one of the mood options.

Heard from my doctor:Things are good but they want to recheck it in a month which fine with me. I have some sort of thing going on in my body .It’s not autoimmune exactly but since I am otherwise healthy they aren’t that worried.

Which is true:I take GOOD care of myself.I do two 20 minute walks a day, get plenty of sleep and hydrate.

I’ve been dealing with arthritis for the past few days and it’s starting to wear on me. Mentally and physically as well.

Pain medication doesn’t seem to hit it,nor do a few other things that I’ve tried. I feel like a baby for having to deal with this pain..without much relief.

Going to bed at the same time and getting up at the same time every day.

Two  20 minute walks a day(even with al of the weather we have had this winter  it hasn’t been that much of an issue,)

Hydrating(water or whatever else is at hand but  mostly water.)

As y’all know, I spend a lot of time on YouTube. One of the suggested videos was about how terrible Planet Fitness is. I’ve never felt like signing up for Planet Fitness(there are several very convenient to where I live).

Apparently there is something called the “lunk alarm” that they set off when people make too much noise working out.But there are some complaints that it doesn’t take a lot to set the lunk alarm off. And this is a place that claims not to be judgemental. Basically, PF prefers that their clients be out of shape rather than fit. Facilitating it by having free pizza and bagels several times a month probably doesn’t help either. There was a comment “any gym that shames people for being fit is an asshole gym”. It was also called “The Walmart Of Gyms”

I liked the gyms(including a 24 Hour Fitness that I belonged to) but gyms are just a magnet for asshole behaviour. Straight fucking up.

Read a book where the main character’s mother gave birth to her, having no idea she was pregnant and then died.

Several things:

1) The birth happens in 1905 ,and having a baby back then was dicey for any number of reasons.See also:No prenatal care(it wasn’t a thing back then even if she HAD known that she was pregnant.)

2)The main character’s mother grew up in an orphanage but you would think they at least knew *something*.

3)And only had 3 periods in her life and was very obese(which makes me think of PCOS.With that you usually have trouble getting pregnant but there are exceptions to every rule.)

The husband can’t believe that she didn’t know/tell him but it sounds like she was honestly not aware until it was happening.

Can’t believe an actual doctor would say that you should NOT have a hysterectomy and you should get a second and even third opinion that there are things you can take that will help.

*points at subject line* there is a HUGE reason that you should listen to doctors.I was lucky, didn’t even have to have chemo so in that respect I was very very lucky. But it still bothers me that there are a lot of people who rely on twigs and berries for health issues. They are not the be all and end all.

This is something that I have noticed with other online health gurus. They go to the most expensive places(Whole Paycheck) and their suggestions about what you SHOULD buy to stay healthy .All well and good but what if you aren’t made of money like they are..overpriced organic mattresses as an example. Or their overpriced branded supplements and products. The thing that irks me the most is promoting of fake sugars, especially xylitol. That’s always caveated with the warning that it gives some people..stomach trouble. *raises hand* I am one of those people.I would rather have the real thing, in moderation than to risk ..that.

But it can get into what is known as “disordered” behaviour.

Look, I love Bobby Parrish’s videos but I do think that he goes too far with the trying to be healthy. It has gotten to the point now where it’s even extended to medications..even the ones that you take(not that often but you do..I think that’s worth pointing out.) See also:Organic tampons. This hasn’t been a worry of mine for a while(long story) but as with any of those things you pay MORE for them.

(Telling someone to try and go organic as much as possible?Shit, they’re gonna break the damn bank if they try and do that and there are a lot of those products that you pay a premium(that’s putting it mildly)for, like the Ezekiel products, or anything that is keto. There was a cereal he showed on one of his videos that was made out of beans.Yes. See also also the overpriced(you know it’s true) keto snacks which..no I don’t do the keto thing but if I was I would want to have snacks that tasted good.Right now keto..anything needs a lot of work..much like vegetarian food back in the day.NOW, vegetarian food is GOOD, and TASTY, and there is a good selection of it.)

Se also also:his pimping the notsugars like stevia and monkfruit. I’ve tried both of them and they just don’t work for me.I did try something that had allulose in it and it was not bad-it didn’t have the aftertaste or side effects that some of the other fake sugars do(Xylitol for one..that is INfamous for causing ..how shall we say..intestinal issues. I speak from personal experience!)

The latest thing is trying to avoid seed oils(there’s a whole list of them online. The list of ones that is GOOD is much shorter than the bad ones..And there’s a lot of fats(fats are good now I guess especially if you’re doing these diets..look at Atkins where it’s bacon and eggs morning noon and night.OK, that might be a LITTLE bit of an exaggeration but not by much.

My neighbours have been talking about their morning walks.Sometime they leave early and walk all the way to the harbour and back. That’s far, but I know I could probably do it. At least one way anyhow.I’m sure my feet would let me know they were feeling some sort of way about it by the time I got there(and if I walked back.)

Right now? When we haven’t even hit pre-fall weather? Still a bit too warm so I would wait until we are well into fall or even winter(though I keep hearing that we’re supposed to have a wet winter so maybe not wait *that* long?)

We walked 2 miles today. I can believe it. I didn’t feel worn out at all but we did stop a few times ‘cause it was hot-but not unbearable.

I’m telling myself that all of the walking we’re doing is off setting the bad food(I had biscuits and gravy for breakfast) that I’m eating. 😂

Monday, which happened to be a rainy, overcast day, was the day that I got my new glasses! I am really enjoying them so far.My old glasses were-I kid you not-falling apart.

The reason that I was glad that it was rainy is because I had to have my eyes dilated. And I don’t know if it’s because it’s been an while, or I’m much more chilled out now, or they have perfected it, but..not that big of a deal!

I finally had my booster shot. It’s been a few weeks already and no ill effects(apparently if you didn’t have any with the first two shots you won’t with the booster and that is the case with me. I hear lots of people say they felt bad for a few days(achy body, headache, etc.) The worst thing I had was a slightly sore arm and a bruised looking arm(and it was itchy too). That was it.

You know how you’re supposed to wait 15 minutes?Well, I didn’t. I got mine at the grocery store and we were out of there almost immediately.Plus, no ill effects but being on the safe side is a safe bet.But for whatever reason it was shot and out of there! Probably going to wait around next tine though there aren’t a lot of places to sit(it was at a grocery store).

The guy who gave me my booster shot was very nice.I didn’t feel it at all(needle technology for things like flu shots and ‘Rona vaccines is so good now it’s painless! You’re waiting for the shot and they tell you it’s done!

“Efficient” isn’t even the word for it!

I do love my Splenda. But according to my niece if you are going to use “fake” sugars it is one of the worst. After she told me this I cut down on my Splenda consumption. But I havre been actively looking for a natural sugar that would work for me. So let’s look at the possibilities:

Agave syrup:Great, in theory but the issue with it:It can jack your cholesterol up.So no.

Stevia:Now,I have tried Stevia since and it was better but I still get the aftertaste so I think it’s off the table.

Coconut sugar:along with Cane sugar the most possible possibility and it would go well, tastewise, with coffee because that is what I would be using it for.

Allulose: Has the least amount of side effects that I could tell(some natural sugars have ingredients that will give you stomach issues. More about that in a minute.)Allulose is not one of those.

Monkfruit:Just bought some the other day.Used it in my coffee when I was visiting my brother and sister-in-law and had no ill effects from it, which was good especially given that it has xylitol which, as I mentioned above can cause stomach issues(it’s what they use in sugar free candy and if you power eat sugar free candy you’ll be hating life.)

So I went to my endocrinologist and he put me on another diabetes medication. “But Katie”, I hear you say, “you were against other medicines when your other doctor suggested it”.

Well, yes.But that’s because he was aggressive about it. He wouldn’t listen to me when I said that I did not want to have two jabs in one go(and, to be honest it wasn’t bad but I should have had *something* of a say in it.)

And, as I have mentioned, Other!Doc has no bedside manner.NONE. He just foisted the medicine(s) on me without any reasoning as to why he’s putting me on said medication. My endocrinologist explains everything and all of the side effects, etc. As for the new medication? I’ve been on it for a few days and.. it’s all good!

I went to a new doctor and..I hope he is my doctor for a while because I prefer him to the doctor I have seen before who was just..rude isn’t quite the right word but it fits. And I had tons of questions and he answered all of them and actually gave a shit.

The other doctor I saw was NOT like that as I’m sure you’ve guessed. I liked going to his office because I knew everyone in the office..well,imma have to make some new friends!

Had to go to the dentist to have a filling and it went about as well as I could have expected. My dentist made sure that I was well numbed. As soon as I got my shot I could feel it numbing(as well it should) and everything commenced.

AND it didn’t take that long, either!

Simple drill and fill and I was done. I’m always nervous when I go to the dentist(not sure why since my dentist is a freaking rock star!)..that’s just the way I am naturally!

Bobby Parrish who is one of my favourite YouTubers ,was talking about healthy fast food options. At the top of his list for the best place is Chipotle.

I agree with this.Doing a little research, I found out that for the most part Chipotle uses clean ingredients(there are a few exceptions but not everyone is perfect) as well as not using preservatives(this is one reason he liked a lot of things at Panera, believe it or not.Their bread, for example. You have to use it up quickly because, with no preservatives in it, goes bad quickly.

Chipotle’s biggest plus is that they are allergy friendly/diet friendly(if you use their app you can get particular customisation if that is your thing.Kinda makes me want to get the app so I can try it out.)

Got my second shot yesterday and, apart from a slightly sore arm, no side effects.

It went about as easily as I could have hoped for-before I got the shot the guy who gave me said shot said “Think about something nice”. I told him “I’m thinking about traveling again”-which is true!

Didn’t feel the shot hardly at all-they have really perfected shots, I always say that I never feel the flu shot when they give it-the bandaid is going on before I know it!
