A former poster on one of the boards I post on is lurking.I have to say that..quite frankly this doesn’t surprise me at all.He lurks all the time judging from what he says at the board he posts on the most.. Let’s just put it this way:There was a VERY good reason that he was banned from the board.

He actually sent me a private message where he called me the n word(yes, really. But knowing him as I do it totally tracks. He is moderator on another board and he always seemed to think that this gave him moderator powers *everywhere((spoiler alert:It didn’t.)

Y’all, opinions are like a certain part of the anatomy. His opinions about the Bond franchise are SET IN STONE and you’re not allowed to say anything that even remotely seems like disagreeing with him.

One of the HUGE reasons that he was banned. His behaviour goes way beyond assholery.People elsewhere seem to think that the way that he acts is some sort of quirk and he gets a pass for it. There was someone else who would do the same sort of shit. He was bringing his personal shit into situations where it did NOT need to be.

One of my long ago frenemies was talking about a certain person.I thought it was *me* but I can still still see her BluSky account.I honestly am not surprised that she is looking for people that she has a beef with.Old beefs die hard.I still have a lot of beefs with people that go back freaking years.

However,several people that she had beef with come right to mind.However I do NOT think that person could give a shit about being blocked by a long-ago frenemy.She has moved on.

Some of the people I am frenemies with are mutuals with people I am good friends with(no beefs there).I’m not going to police people.This isn’t high school.If someone still has an issue with me after all these years then that is on them,to be quite honest. And in the example I just gave it has a lot to do with ideology more than anything else.Politics and religion and I’ll leave it at that.

Found out that one of my internet nemesis from back when I first got on the internet. Has a blog.Mind you it hasn’t been updates in several years but it’s definitely her because:

1)She was friends with someone who was a member of Duran Duran for a while and she felt like she was part of Duran Duran’s inner circle and said she was going to write a book about it.That is a book that I would like to read.

2)Her birthday.Confirmed it was her because of that.

3)Morrissey, Dave Gahan and Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran.

TL:DR?I don’t know. If she has mellowed with age but back in the day she was NOT a nice person and felt like she “ran” the fandom(not the first,or last time that I wold run into that sort of behaviour in fandoms.)

One thing that we agree on though:Michael Des Barres CANNOT sing. He replaced Robert Palmer on the Power Station tour back in the day.Sir, you are NO Robert Palmer.

(Also, I had to LOL at someone calling Michael and his wife Pamela “Grizzled scene veterans”.Shit, they were grizzled 40 years ago.)

James Bond fans and Hannibal fans certainly have their similarities.Mind you, Hannibal has not been around as long as the Bond films had(over 60 years.

First of all, the main character being played by multiple actors.Some peop0le like certain actors more than others or see the books as a better of example of faithfulness(taking too many liberties with the source materials.) They haven’t really done that *so* much with James Bond but there are issues with the Bond franchise that have been going on for a long time. And they don’t ever seem to get fixed and the problem is that there are some in the Bond fandom who want Bond to stay in a sort of stasis and never change.Lots of talk about going “back to the roots of Bond” and doing a retro style bond film. I do not think that is the way to go about it though.

Bond fans  feel a certain way about certain things and can be quite vocal.I learned as much when I posted on the MI6 forums.  Same with Hannibal fans. But let’s talk about Bond fans:They are vocal about who they do not like as actors and do like(and some are known for being fans of a particular actor or film, or both. To the point of being obnoxious even.

I am much more into the Hannibal fandom than I am the Bond fandom even though there isn’t much going on in either.But I would say that the Hannibal fandom is still very vital even though a lot of people that I knew  from then have moved on. There are some people who grated on my nerves in the Hannibal fandom..wanting to be the “leaders” of the fandom..well you can figure out how that went over. People went along with it initially but the people that were the most involved  left the fandom to never be heard from again and certainly not trying to be some sort of leaders.I wonder if they would come back if Hannibal were to get a Season 4. Kinda doubt it. There are some self appointed “experts” in the Bond fandom that like to think that they know what is best for the Bond franchise.Believe me, I have seen some of their suggestions and they sure as shit do NOT know what is right for the Bond fandom. The bossy pants assholes going onto message boards that were tangentially related to Bond and where sone of these  opinions  are opposite of what  was said on the big deal Bond boards, trying to play like they are moderator there when they are nothing of the sort.

I’m going to give examples of fandom weirdness in several different fandoms(TV, movies and music).

TV:

Hannibal(OK so I have to qualify this just a little.I mostly have had positive experiences in the Hannibal fandom but there have been times where that was not the case.I don’t have the time to spend to help Hannibal win some poll(and there was a lot of that, a lot more than you would think.) I occasionally hear people say they don’t feel welcome in other fandoms, which I hate. That is a sticking point for some Hannibal fans who don’t like shipping(putting two characters in a relationship imagined or otherwise.) Much more common in HUGE fandoms(Our Flag Means Death comes right to mind, as does Sherlock way back when. As crazy as the Hannibal fandom can be it’s not as unhealthy as , say the Sherlock fandom.)

This was kind of at the end of its run but I always found the Chicago Hope fandom..searches for a word and settles on “prickly”. Fort a show that at that point, was in decline, it seemed like they were being a bit precious .There was someone who saw themselves as a defender for a particular actor on the show(IIRC by that point wasn’t even on the show anymore and who was on another show(much different than Chicago Hope it must be said.)

Movies:
James Bond.Oooh. There are so many nuances there. First of all the fact that Bond has been played by multiple actors.People have opinions and they’re entitled to them;However some people are..very strong where their opinions are concerned . Second, the first Bond movie came out over 60 years ago. Times havbe changed.And those classic Bond films are some of the best(if not having aged rather badly) and that has been parodied in the Austin Powers movies.

This is where the nuance comes in. Some want that classic style of Bond film to come back.Unfortunately what with Austin Powers existing…it’s just going to look weird. With some of the decisions that the Bond producers have made, I don’t doubt that retro-ing the Bond films hasn’t crossed their minds at least once(probably more than that,actually.)

Music:
One of the first things I did when I got online was look up Duran Duran websites.At the time, Duran Duran weren’t exactly in a decline but they certainly had had their best days..little did I know that they would have a HUGE renaissance (I saw them in 2016 and they were amazing.My first and them most recent concert were both Duran Duran concerts.)

There are some longtime fans who don’t love everything that the band does (that is putting it mildly) and do nothing but snark on the band,Again, people are entitled to their opinion but..in at least one case it got so nasty I was amazed that particular person had any friends. And they knew EVERYONE.I was amazed at how far their reach went. They haven’t been seen or heard from in a long time(like the Fandom Troll in the Hannibal Fandom We haven’t heard anything from her in a while(and I hope we don’t l EVER.)
