The Vintage San Diego community on Facebook has been reminding me of all sorts of things that I’d completely forgotten about, like the Galaxy Diner at Horton Plaza(which later became a McDonald’s of all things!)

Pretty much right next door to that was an FAO Schwarz..not as spandango as the one in New York City..one thing that I remember is that they had a huge selection of collectible Barbies(which were very expensive.) Speaking of expensive:I can pinpoint the point at which Horton Plaza went into decline:When they built all that(IMO) not needed Sam Goody. Which by the way tried to be many things(they even had a cafe there at one point.) My problem with that place was it was WAY more expensive than any of the other places that I would buy music(when I worked at The Wherehouse they wanted us to only shop there, even though we hardly got a discount .I would have gone to Lou’s(these were the days before iTunes) and I told one of the people I worked with so and they were very dismissive.Well, of course.

There was a picture back when The Broadway(!) was there..I think most of the Broadways became Macy’s and now Macy’s is hurting(especially if they are in a dead mall like the one near my house.)

*Anthony’s Harbourside(across the street from the OG(to me anyways) Anthony’s. Only went to Harbourside a couple of times..it was always Anthony’s or the Fishette which was a take out place right next door to Anthony’s(OG).

*The Balboa Park train-which was thrilling as a kid and was thrilling the last time I went on it-which was quite a few years ago.See also:the Coronado bridge.
