roaming_kate23I alluded to certain things the other day and this is sort of adjacent to that .
When I was a teenager I liked-no, was OBSESSED, with Duran Duran. I didn’t have a group of friends at my school who liked them the way that I did.Fair to say that I ate slept and breathed Duran Duran there for a few years.
My parents were amazingly tolerant of the whole thing (my mom had been a Elvis fan back in the day so she got it. I also had a teacher who had been a HUGE Beatles fan back in the day so she also got it though even she had her limits. Still though, compared to most of my teachers, it was quite different.
(I would hang out out at a family friends’ house-we’ll call her Judith-and her daughter-we’ll call her Genni-I even tried to turn Genni into a Duran Duran fan with varying degrees of luck.)
Ah.My teachers.And this ties into the whole thing that I was talking about the other day. Out of all my teachers there were a scant few of them who got my love of Duran Duran. One of them was a former Marine. Their level of..intensity was wrong for a middle school classroom.
That’s where
The mental and verbal abuse comes into play. She was far from the only offender but probably the biggest one.Like I said, if that was happening now I would report it and the consequences be damned.
This is a theme that has continued through my life.I have had to deal with people who, if they are not verbally abusive, are mentally abusive .These are always people in positions of power(bosses..and I have talked about all of the bad bosses that I have had..I think I win the award!) I talked recently about running into one of my former bosses and blanking her.It made me feel..empowered.You have to understand that this was not a nice person. I’m sure that she felt some sort of way about me blanking her but do you think I care?No.
