The problem with the smaller, older ships is that they need maintenance that HAL is not willing to do on them.And yet the old guard continue to defend the old ships, as worn out as they are.
Portly Princess:I’ll be sad to see the last 2 S class ships go.When those ships are gone, so am I.
(I believe this.She was close to going on a Koningsdam cruise with Rev. Douchebag but decided against it.)
My experience on the Volendam led me to believe that it should be scrapped
(Knowing HAL, they’ll sell it-in terrible condition-to another cruise line)
Renaming a ship would be like putting lipstick on a pig
(Thing is, HAL has sold several of their ships in bad shape-and the new owners are expected to turn the ship around quickly and they do a shitty job(that’s putting it mildly..)
*Cruise directors/World cruise:
The four of us thought that he was dreadful but we’re not part of the “in crowd”
(There is a segment of CC posters who like to criticise every aspect of their cruise.Literally. And if you’re on an extended cruise ,they have to “deal with” things that bother them, up to and including cruise directors.)
Having never taken a world cruise I wonder what sort of negative impact the clique and in crowd factor has on newcomers.
(This has come up before, and also the Prinsendam was very insular ,because the vast majority of people that cruised on her had been on her multiple times.I wonder what percentage of those cliquey people are posters on Cruise Critic.There is *definitely* crossover there.)
World cruise atmosphere is very cliquey
(For some reason-and this is not hate- the regulars on the world cruise can afford to go on multiple world cruises-and it’s NOT cheap where a new comer has probably been saving for a while and looking for good deals )
Repeaters don’t want to share dining tables,etc.
(Now I KNOW there is crossover with Cruise Critic. Some of the comments that I’ve seen on the Cruise Critic. HAL boards...)
Expected to be waited on first/they pretend that crew members they abused are their friends and happy to see them
( Tammy comes right to mind, as does Portly Princess. The crew rolls their eyes every time they see Portly coming.Tammy hasn’t been on a cruise in several years because of all her issues (she’s allergic to EVERYTHING and she’s on a cruise-she expects everyone to not wear perfume, not smoke,etc. It’s been a while so I can’t remember all of the details but yeah.And she was another one who always acted like she was friends with the crew and when they was out of earshot they were shit talking her.Also,she was friends with Mary Louise who was also very demanding(we’re talking someone who would complain if she didn’t get a straw for her drink.Yes, really.)
