Armistead Maupin is one of my favourite authors. However, I have to say this:Some of his books are better than others. The beginning and end of the series are the best, with some good(and bad) in the middle.

The problem is that he forgets his lore. There are inconsistencies and also some things that are just what the fuck.

I’ma put this under a cut because it’s gonna get wordy..

Brian and Mary Ann adopted their daughter Shawna when her mom died a few days after Shawna was born. In one book it says that she died a few days after the birth because her blood wouldn’t clot and she had a stroke.

But then in another book she “bled to death on a delivery table”. The disease she had *can* cause you to bleed to death but it’s usually a slow thing and is also combined with all of the vital organs shutting down one by one. In other words, one of the worst ways to die.

In the books Shawna knows that she is adopted but in the 2019 series she doesn’t. Not sure if that was a choice on the part of the writers’ perogative or not.

On another note:

The storyline in Further Tales Of The City that involves Jim Jones(yes, really.) he survived Jonestown and is living in San Francisco..

On yet another note:

The “C” plot/twist in Mary Ann In Autumn.I suspected what it was and skipped ahead and it turns out that I was right. But again, as with the Jim Jones plot, it kinds comes out of nowhere.

The other series that comes right to mind is Adrian Mole. There is also some inconsistencies and also?awkward Adrian as an adult is not as funny as when he’s a teenager. It’s cringe, truly,
