[local things.]
Dec. 12th, 2025 07:21 amUsed to be that going to a Padres(our baseball team) game was a good day out-and not too expensive. It’s gotten less so over the years.
I remember going to a game at Jack Murphy(our all purpose sports stadium). My dad game me ten dollars to get something to eat and I literally came back to my seat with 50 cents. It’s not like you had much choice at Jack Murphy-it’s wasn’t like Petco Park where you can go elsewhere-there are lots of places to eat around Petco.
One of the best things that happened was that Jack Murphy was knocked down.I remember going there over 30 years ago and it was crumbling then. That’s an aspect of progress that I can actually say that I’m OK with.
We’ve had redos of a lot of places-Fashion Valley comes right to mind.I’m so old that I remember when Fashion Valley had a Woolworth’s.
They redo it and yet they can’t fix the fact that it floods every time we get a little bit of rain.
Same with UTC(another local mall).I don’t recognise the UTC of my teenage years.
Long upon a time ago there was a place-can’t remember the name but there was one at the Carlsbad mall too-that had the BEST clam chowder.
Also,International Gifts.Even though it was spendy for the amount of allowance I got.
Seriously-I could do a whole series on places that are no longer around in San Diego.but ARE(were?) San Diego to me.A few restaurants, yes, but also, places that are(were?) “you know you’ve been in San Diego a long time when”…I’ve seen a lot of places come and go.
