[Definitely blogmas-ing next year]
Dec. 5th, 2025 07:34 amThis time of year it is not Christmas if I don’t hear Do They Know It’s Christmas at least once-if not more.
I remember the first time I heard it try finding a copy-the profits went to charity so I felt obligated.
The reason it was so thrilling for me was that I was still deep into being a Duran Duran fan at the time.Even though by then my love of them was waning(still, getting their live album that year for Christmas was a thrill.Amazing considering that the tour had only ended a couple of months before.)
See also:The Enter The Arena game(which is a holy grail item for a lot of Duran Duran fans.-even if they’re not sure how to play it. I’ve only seen one in the wild and it was not for sale.)
My other big gift that year was a denim jacket. A Duranie thing back in the day-don’t ask me why, I put all my pins on it which made it very heavy. My teachers did not like it(I’ve talked before about how all but one of them LOATHED Duran Duran. OIne of them threatened to send me home for having too many pins on my shirt(this was pre-denim jacket.)
Eventually I quit liking Duran Duran-I have come back to their music by the by.I was realising that there was a lot more than Duran Duran out there.
Of the two solo projects I always liked Power Station better.Arcadia was very..different than Power Station. Which is interesting because when Wild Boys came out I was like “oh-kaaay(still my least favourite Duran Duran song,BTW)
Arcadia was more influenced by bands like Japan who were a HUGE influence on Duran Duran.I’ve never done a deep dive on their music like I have David Bowie who for SURE had a HUGE influence on Duran Duran.Bowie is someone I came to because of Duran Duran.)In fact, their cover of Fame is better than Bowie’s.I said what I said!
