[20 years]
Aug. 29th, 2025 01:42 pmHard to believe. It has been 20 years since Hurricane Katrina.
My family was there not quite 3 years afterwards. You could tell there was still damage, and New Orleans is low laying and permanently humid(is there ever a time of year that New Orleans *isn’t* humid in some way shape or form?)It must be said that we were there in July. I wanted to take pictures of St. Louis Cathedral. Our hotel was right off of Bourbon Street. For context this was barely even 8 in the morning and it was HOT. I walked a block and .. *gross sweating*.
A couple of weeks ago National Geographic had a several part special on Katrina. It was hard to watch.
Clearly there was warning. But they got ignored. I remember seeing t-shirts in the gift stores in New Orleans-
“FEMA:Fix Everything My Ass”
And
“Run motherfucker run”.
