[Not Holland America’s problem]

roaming_kate23The other day a ship was late leaving port because one of the ships had protestors trying to get on to the ship(among other things-actually they were climbing up the ropes that they tie up to when they’re docked(I know they have a name but I don’t know them in spite of all the times I have been on cruises so there you go).
At least one person said that HAL’s not doing anything bothered them so much that they would not cruise with HAL again.If I had a dollar for every time that someone has said that I could retire.It is amazing to me how many people will give up on HAL because of something which(in the scheme of things) is so minor.See also, people saying that, when something happens on a ship(like missing a port, or protestors for instance)there are a “lot of” upset people.
Trust me, I have been on a few cruises where things have come up and people were disappointed(of course they were),but they were NOT going all over the ship trying to get people to be pissed off with them and start a rebellion as it were.This isn’t even the worst thing:When something came up on a ship recently there were several posters who suggested camping out by the customer service desk until the crew gave into them. This is the sort of shit that makes me shake my head.I used to think that there weren’t that many “difficult” passengers but now I realise that there are more than I thought.
Back when I first started lurking(and then posting)on the HAL boards there were a LOT of people like that, and they were quite vocal.Some of them left, others died, and yet others got new screen names, and there are a few who used to be the biggest pains in the ass on the boards but because of getting warnings from the moderators, they have mellowed out over time.It’s taken awhile.There are some that will never mellow out, like Tammy, who I’ve mentioned before.She has no chill whatsoever and lately when she posts(she doesn’t very often..she quit cruising but occasionally she will post..and sometimes she’s helpful, but most of the time she talks shit.She used to be one of the “board moms”(I hate that..when people appoint themselves “leaders”-I’ve run into that before)..she was very close to Mary Louise, another annoying(and very emotionally needy poster..We’re talking someone who started a thread about all the things that went wrong on her cruise.)
