[ Dealbreaker?really?]

There is a thread about the disappearing libraries on HAL ships. This is something(along with dress codes) that I have talked about quite extensively. The cruise we went on in 2012 was on the Westerdam and at the time it still had its’ library. But the library/Crow’s Nest has been turned into a hang out area/bar/place for groups on the cruise(which sometimes happens) to have their meetings.
There are books, not just as many , and they are mostly about the area that the ship is cruising in.Well for some who have been cruising for a long time this was one of the worst things that HAL could have done. There are many reasons given why libraries have been eliminated(except on the older ships where they can’t) is because a lot of books get stolen(taken off the ship).Another is that some people are messy(figuratively and literally) and the books come back looking worse than when they were checked out. There’s no “official” librarian on HAL ships for the most part and they’re assuming that most people bring the books back and bring them back in good shape. But if they’re eliminating the libraries, obviously it’s not true.
And whilst it’s true that people *do* leave books in the Crow’s Nest when they’re done reading them, it’s never enough for the people who are still pining away for the old libraries. Me, I always bring a couple of books with me on a cruise because there is a lot of time to read,or put a couple of books on my iPad.
IMO it’s whinging for whinging’s sake. Whether it’s the lack of libraries, formal night(or the dumbing down of-their words, not mine) or many other things.)
I hate to use this analogy because..well, it’s in bad taste but some of these people who complain and complain about all of the things that HAL has done that they don’t like and they say it’s going to make them try another cruise line are like battered women. They just keep going back for more.Seriously. And then when they do try a different cruise line they came back and complain about how much they hated it because it wasn’t HAL. Because HAL has all the things they like, and yet they have gotten rid of so many things, eliminated them, it’s a catch 22 situation.
