It amazes me how Mormonism, especially in places where they are the majority religion like Utah and Idaho wield WAY too much power.I won’t say what occasioned this but if you do some googling you will get it.
But let me tell you:
They have craziness like the Honour code at BYU.Basically it is a way for people to snitch on each other.
Proposition 8 was ruined by Mormons who weren’t even living in California.Feels like that is illegal, somehow.
Mormonism is a high demand religion.Maybe not so much in other places where they aren’t the dominant religion but in Utah and a few other places they have a stranglehold and that has lied to a lot of social issues .Women stay in marriages that are abusive because the church tells them that they must and it has led to whole families being murdered.
There is also a sense of(and I’ve seen this with my own eyes)that the rules are the rules. If you follow them you will be disfellowshipped.Yeah, also not true. This is a true-blue Mormon thing .If they were raised in a devoutly Mormon home they are going to have sone ideas-which leads me into my final point which I’ll get there in a minute.
1)You can’t get divorced (not true).
2)If you marry a Mormon you have to convert(also not true.)
3)This is a religion that said that black people and Native Americans were evil for MANY years.Needless to say Mormons of colour did not feel comfortable in the religion for a LONG time. And it’s only since 1978 that black Mormons have been able to hold priesthood in the church. This fact(and polygamy and Mountain Meadows(google it) will piss them off.Any sort of insinuation that they might be racist will set them off. “But I adopted two biracial children !!”(yes, and I’m sure that some of your more true blue family members had something to say about it at the time.)
