Katy Perry grew up in a SUPER fundamentalist family. If you know anything about her you know that once she was out on her own she got as far away from her upbringing as she could. For a long time she was on the outs with her parents but that has changed since she has had kids. She had made her peace with them. Her parents have gotten lots of shit for their daughter’s choice of career.
I know they were not crazy about Russell Brand, her first husband(wonder what they would think of him converting to Catholicism? It’s a well known thing that Catholics are anathema to Pentecostals like her parents.
Her mom and dad were VERY “non accepting”. Katy says that she herself is very accepting(she has a song called “I Kissed A Girl”.).Katy also had lots of skepticism about religion from a very young age.Well, with that upbringing can you blame her? She also got a lot of the “Pray the gay away” programming too,
Anyhow, Katy had a pretty typical fundamentalist upbringing-no “deviled” eggs(Oh lord..) not allowed to listening to secular music and the only book she was allowed to read was the Bible.(IOW no Harry Potter.)That tracks.
There are quite a few similarities between fundamentalists and Catholicism the way it is is practised in the Bible Belt. They take it very seriously. My nephew went to Catholic school and they got the “Harry Potter is EVIL!!!” programming from multiple teachers at that school.
*Maybe they are -originally -I don’t know.
