The L.A. trip continued with me going over to Whole Foods to try and find some coffee.Decided I should see if Starbucks at the Farmer’s Market was open(it was) and that was where I got my coffee.
Headed to Venice to check out a bookstore that I remember going to years and years ago(gotta love indie bookstores…especially when places like Barnes &Noble and Amazon exist(and I do use them but I don’t just buy books..though I buy plenty there it must be said.I diversify.I’ve done a lot of Christmas shopping on Amazon over the past couple of years.)
Lunch was at Yes Olde King’s Head in Santa Monica. It is a British pub ..they also have a shop next door that I will talk about in a moment.Ye Old is a classic British pub..there are pictures of all the celebrities that have visited..and I recognised most of them!Of course LOTS of pictures of Queen Elizabeth(RIP) and a portrait of Winston Churchill over one of the fireplaces.
The food? Was amazing. My mom had split pea soup and rhubarb crumble ,my dad and the English breakfast and I had fish and chips(yes,I DID give up potatoes for Lent but I considered this a special occasion.)The fish was some of the best fish I have ever had. Some fish and chips can have too much batter(pretty sure y’all know what I mean) but the batter on the fish was ON POINT.Very light and did not hold the grease like a beer batter tends to(not that it’s not good-it is!) the good vinegar-which I douse the fish in-not a statement on the cooking there because it was DELICIOUS! My brother does the same thing when he orders fish and chips. He’s not a fan of tartar sauce though-I love the stuff!
Of course it is no secret that I am an anglophile ..after I ate I went to the shop next door..WOW!! They had an amazing selection of British(and Indian ,etc.) items. Found a few things that I needed(including a new coffee cup.Did I need another coffee cup?Not really but it was so cool I kinda had to.)
