[Last Cruise Critic post of 2020]
Thursday, 31 December 2020 08:33And it’s a dooooozy.
Apparently cruise lines are considering banning motorised scooters going forwards(“They’re just as dangerous going backwards” someone said-I may be paraphrasing a bit there but it basically was what was said.) True about them being dangerous-there are people who just don’t know their own power when they are in a scooter.)
There’s already one cruise line that has banned scooters. The thinking about banning scooters is to make things easier when cruise lines start up again. Yes, of course, do what you have to do.The way things are going to be done is going to piss people off but it has to be done. And it’s not going to be perfect right away-a HUGE reason that I have decided that I’m not cruising anymore. There are plenty of options out there which are better than being on a floating Petri dish from 1 to 2 weeks. That’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed the cruises that I’ve been on(I for SURE did!) but that’s done now.Which is a shame because I have had some amazing experiences on the cruises that we’ve been on and met some really interesting people too(on the first Holland America cruise we ever went on we met a couple who were from the same town as I am! Talk about random!)
Guess who weighed in(literally) with her opinion?Portly Princess.Well, of course she would have interest in this because she needs a scooter to get around. Portly made a comment about ships being so big that she has to take a break when she’s walking(scootering?) from one end of the ship to the other..”ships so big you have to stop and have a snack”.(Well, she *is* motivated by food.No denying that at. All. She’ll even tell you that one of the reason that she goes on cruises is because she has someone cooking for her al the time and the food is good and when she needs a “snack” she can get it.
Someone said that they could imagine the backlash if the cruise lines tried to ban mobility devices. Well, as I said before, at least one cruise line has already banned scooters so it has happened. I mean, banning scooters is the *least* of HAL’s problems. That would be ‘Rona. And we’ll see, in 2021 what happens with cruise lines with respect to being ready and following all of the rules. Yeah...it’s going to be a while yet.
