Though Portly Princess doesn’t like any of the newer ships because the rooms are so much smaller than then older-in bad shape- ships. Shen needs a lot of room because of,well, her size. She is not a small person(this is someone who only wears muu muus because that is what she can fit in.
The new ships are not to her taste but the information that is coming out about the newest ship is erroneous.Portly Princess had her biases already Shit, she ‘s had them for a LONG time. She’s been cruising. With HAL for a long time. She(and a few others) are always going on and on about “The good old days” of HAL(which are LONG gone..)
There was some other stuff about the Koningsdam-haters gonna hate, basically. I went on the Kdam last year and I liked it.I liked it a lot. I notice that every time that there is a lot of people bashing the Kdam that there are a ton of people saying how much they liked their cruise on her.I sure liked mine . All of the comments about how the Koningsdam represents the direction that HAL is going in and it is not a direction that they like. And there are a few people that are very vocal about how much they don’t like the Koningsdam any chance that they get. I can sum it up with one phrase: “To each her/his own”. But that’s not good enough for the people who miss the “Old” HAL. The most ridiculous comment I saw(and this IS the Cruise Critic Holland America boards after all) was that in-room dining was impossible on the Koningsdam. Uhhh yeah..maybe there’s not a couch or a place to sit in the room but you can make it work(IIRC in my cabin on the Koningsdam they had a ottoman which you could either use to sit or or for storage(or both) and I assure you that it was NOT a deal breaker for me.
(Even though the room service breakfast menu is pretty basic, what they have is good. You DO have to pay extra for certain things which I don’t do. I am a simple woman with simple pleasures(it’s a tie between an omelet or continental breakfast. And coffee.Of course coffee. And sometimes cereal. Especially on the days where I’ve got an early start. That’s also why I also have to have coffee!)
LBR NOTHING about the Koningsdam was a deal breaker for me. There are several ships that I would go on again(if I was still cruising)..Westerdam is one, Nieuw. Amsterdam is another, and I would definitely go on the Kdam again.
