Sep. 18th, 2019 05:42 pmThere is another British newspaper-which is also online-The British Weekly. There used to be one here in San Diego-based here-which you could get at British pubs, grocery stores, etc. in the U.S.
It went out of buisness several years ago(just couldn’t stay a working concern) but I think there may have been other issues going on too.
One description I read of The Union Jack-the paper that went out of buisness -was that it was conservative.That’s pretty accurate,I think. There were some conservative places that always has it that were, well, conservative about giving you a copy of it(they did not always have them out where you could just grab one) and had to buy something in order to get a copy.Which,given that it was a free newspaper was bullshit.
The fact it was free might have had something to do with why they shut down(though apparently it wasn’t free if you bought it at the British foods store in Solana Beach, part of a chain and another place I never thought I would see shut down but they all did.Mind you, the shelves at the Solana Beach store were always a bit bare, and the service not very friendly for the most part.
That brings me to why I like the British Weekly-I like being able to read articles online-they have them on a wide variety of topics-with the main focus being on entertainment.Best of all they’ve got good writers who don’t seem full of themselves or bitchy, like the Union Jack writer who would always devote part of her monthly column to things that annoyed her about Americans. And you moved here because??? Checked out her website and..she could use serious help from a web designer.Her site is a hot mess wall of text.Good luck finding what you’re actually looking for!
