roaming_kate23Just finished watching The Serpent on Netflix.Wow! I have to say that the MVP of the story is Herman Knippenberg and his wife Angela, who spent MANY years trying to get justice for people who had been killed/hurt by Charles Sobrahj. And he did get justice but it took a lot of years. It caused issues with his marriage and people saying he needed to let it go.But thankfully he did NOT let it go. And he still has all of his files from back then and periodically updates them.
Add to that Sobrahj has a lot of tricks up his sleeve and he has several accomplices in what he does.Basically at one point he is paying people off to look the other way and a crooked cop lets him walk out of the jail.Oh yeah! Everyone involved is like “WTF!!” And the guy’s boss rips him a new one(and rightfully so, I might add!)
Herman goes into his apartment after Sobrahj has been arrested(that doesn’t last very long) and they find what is supposed to be kaopectate but it’s less kaopectate and more something that is going to make those sort of problems worse(kaopectate being a thing there especially when you first move there and aren’t used to the food, water,etc. There’s one scene where Herman is eating spicy soup and his friend says “wait until you shit it out”. LOL(I’m not sure how long Herman has been in Thailand when the story starts but he knows about kaopectate so long enough..)
Charles Sobrahj is probably going to die in jail-after all of his escapes, they are going to make damn sure that he doesn’t escape again. His accomplice died a few years after he was caught(and he then escaped) There was some bending of the truth(certain things were changed slightly but the show is based on several books on Charles Sobrahj(IMO The Serpent did a great job of it but I bought a book -the one that The Serpent was actually based on, among others and am going to read that..eventually. There is also a very big book(Serpentine) which is one of the definitive books on the subject.)
