Going by Mt. Soledad the other day I said I had never been there.I’ve lived in San Diego pretty much my entire life and never been there!

There are actually quite a few places I haven’t been:
Swami’s beach

The sea caves in La Jolla

Seal tours(they have them in other cities and they’re called Duck tours and maybe San Diego has those too I don’t know)

Anza Borrego

Footbridges in Golden(Banker’s?) Hill and Hillcrest.

Chicano Park in Barrio Logan

There’s the old tried and trues too:
Balboa Park

The Midway museum

Julian(gotta get a slice of apple pie!)

Hotel Del

Cabrillo Monument(love the drive out there with the ocean on one side and San Diego Bay on the other as well as the lookout which has the best view(IMO) in all of San Diego.)

But I was trying to think of other civic symbols that could represent San Diego and I thought of 3.

1)Presidio Park/Mission Alcala

2)The Bali Hai restaraunt on Shelter Island. It has a Tiki theme and is a lot of fun. You have to walk up a couple of stairs to get to the bathrooms and the men’s room is on one side and the women’s the other. And lots of mirrors.

3)San Diego airport(Lindbergh Field). It’s an old school looking airport but they’ve redone it over the years- the “new” Terminal 2 is about 20 years old(a little over actually) and is very modern. It was serviceable back in the day but..back in the day was just that.So it was well needed.

I’m Ok with the new Portside complex which is right on San Diego Bay.It’s right where the old Anthony’s and Star Of The Sea Room used to be which brings back a lot of memories for me.

Plus, you could make a day of it because there is a lot to do in the area. I’d like to go have a proper look at the Midway-I’ve been there once before but it wasn’t long of a visit. And it was INTERESTING-this is coming from someone who has no interest in Navy history.Kinda can’t get away from it in San Diego as we’re a Navy town!

Portside has a Brigatine restaraunt(yes) Miguel’s(yes! Love their Coronado location!) coffee and gelato(check!) and Ketch grill(yep-just looked at their menu-I might have a hard time deciding what I want to order!) At one point there was supposed to be a branch of beloved(not to me) chain Carnitas’ Snack Shack. Did a little googling and found out that at least two of their locations have closed-one by the health department .Apparently according to reviews I read the owners of one of the locations said that they had issues with the power going out-and yet they still sold spoiled food-and quite a few people got food poisoning because of it. WTF!

The new season of Dirty John started and I am watching with much interest because it’s the story of Betty Broderick who killed her husband and second wife. And it happened in San Diego.

The whole story unfolded over several years, rather publicly, and then, well, she killed him.

Her ex husband has her supporters, even now, and you know,Betty was no saint, but Dan used the fact that he was a lawyer against her.No wonder lawyers have a bad reputation(not all of them) but Dan was on a power trip and he knew it.

My parents and I went for a drive to La Jolla.I had forgotten how pretty of a drive that is, and how many nooks and crannies there are to La Jolla. It’s definitely one of the old money hubs in the San Diego area(the others are Coronado and Rancho Santa Fe.

Especially Coronado.Whenever we go to the Hotel Del to look at the Christmas tree(though we didn’t do so last year)there is a wait for the weekend brunch.Said brunch is $100(for adults anyways, I don’t know about kids)That is NOT cheap but hey, old money, and plus, even though they have money to spare, it’s their one extravagance for the year. Would not be my first choice-I’d go to someplace like Mr. A’s that has a view(from what I know though-at one point they did NOT have the prices on their menus.A friend’s dad went there and was told that if he had to ask how much everything is, he couldn’t afford it.The cheek!

At Christmas Coronado gets all decorated up and it’s fun to drive around and see all of the houses(there are some niiiice houses on Coronado. The last time we were there we drove around and wound up at the gates of the Naval station. We didn’t get any closer, though.

When I was a kid(and an adult, too) I thought going over the Coronado bridge was the most thrilling thing ever. It’s pretty high, so you can see how I would have thought that was really scary. Also,as you’re going over the bridge(and coming back, looking towards downtown San Diego)there is an amazing view. One of my favourite views ever.

Yes,I know, hunkering down..but then again there are places, walks we can do.

As an example, Balboa Park. There are TONS of trails behind the Old Globe Theatre(which they use in the plays sometimes-too perfect!)

Anza Borrego-you can get out of the car but it is the desert after all.Added bonus? This time of year-and in fact today is the first day of Spring-there is a MASSIVE bloom of wildflowers.

Driving day trips-up into the mountains-with the weather we’ve been having there is going to be LOTS of snow accordingly. When we get the weather everyone wants to go to the mountains!
