Milan has banned selfie sticks in all of the big attractions there.Good,I say!Hopefully they will ban the people who sell said selfie sticks.
In the scheme of things, do you think that it will be enforced?Because selfie sticks are banned from the Colosseum in Rome but there were plenty of people using them.See also:The Vatican museums and the Sistine Chapel(and you’re not supposed to talk OR take pictures but people do both all the time.
As with Milan,I would like them to quit selling selfie sticks.Yes,I know that the people who sell selfie sticks, umbrellas and the like have to make a living but there is a fine line between making a living and harassing the shit out of people to get them to buy something. It was so bad at one point whilst we were waiting to go on our tour of the Colosseum that they made me cry.As I told my dad,”This is not a count to 10 thing.”. It was the highest of anxiety.
Mind you,I did do a lot better this time..and the first time I was in Rome we were there right at the start of tourist season/summer and yeah, there were a lot of people selling stuff(including skip the line tours)and they are(in a lot of ways)worse than the sellers, if that makes sense. They’re in places(right outside of gift shops especially in Vatican City)where it’s pretty much impossible to avoid them and sometimes there will be more than one in any given block.Another thing that the city authorities in Rome have claimed that they are going to crack down but judging by the 2 times that I’ve been there, they haven’t.There’s a lot of Rome to try and enforce-I would say impossible even. But if they don’t, it’s going to put people off of going to Rome(not me..I love Rome..one my favourite cities that I’ve visited!
