roaming_kate23*Today is my nephew’s birthday and we’re going to a local restaraunt for an early lunch.It’s a place our family all loves.
*Yes, I know this trailer has been out there for a while..Under The Banner Of Heaven, based on the book by Jon Krakauer. Amazed that there hasn’t been more controversy about it from the Mormons.They were plenty upset when the book came out ,and being that a) the show shows Mormon Temple ceremonies b) talks about controversial teachings in the church and c) is written by someone(Dustin Lance Black) who is an apostate(no longer a member of the church for various reasons, up to and including being gay. Which he is)
The “controversial” aspect(one of several..and if the show is anything like the book they will go into this)of the Mormon church are polygamy,the Mountain Meadows Massacre, and blood atonement.
Because the murders of two people were blood atonement,I will be focusing on it.
The TL:DR version of things is that(back in the day.. this has been disputed/controversial for MANY years) if someone in the Mormon church sinned in some sort of way they should have their throat cut.
Like I said, disputed, but it’s something that fundamentalist Mormons believe in, and that’s the story behind Under The Banner Od Heaven.
The wife of a fundamentalist Mormon wasn’t going along with her husband, who along with his brothers, got involved with fundamentalist Mormonism. At some point she expressed her concerns to her husband.
At some point one of her brother-in-laws received a revelation from God that he was to “remove” certain people.Including his sister-in-law and niece ,who was only 15 months old at the time. Both he and the other brother-in-law were sentenced to life in prison and one of the brothers died in prison.
