The sun burning out:Which is pretty final. At least it won’t be hot?
Yellowstone erupting.Which they say is going to happen all the time.When it does, we’re screwed.One HUGE reason I side eye 2012 as a movie is that they are in Yellowstone-right by the caldera-when it erupts.By all rights they should be dead(and one of the characters *does* die.) But others are able to escape in a rickety old RV. Yes, I know, suspension of belief but that is taking it WAY too far.
Asteroid/planetary collision:As with Yellowstone,if you lived in the immediate area you would be killed instantly.Same with an asteroid or a planetary collision. I don’t rate movies like Deep Impact because they are taken as gospel.
The flip side of that is a movie like Melancholia which gets it right.And the B stories, about one sister’s depression and how she deals with that and her reaction and being able to come to terms with it as opposed to her sister who..is very much the opposite.
