[The most nostalgic of nostalgia]
Dec. 20th, 2023 11:01 am Back in the day I was a Duran Duran fan. I’ve talked about this a lot in the past.
My teachers HATED that I basically was Duran Duran 24/7 for a few years there. It just made me want to do it more.Fandom and being awkward and on the spectrum(though I didn’t know what that was back then) was a bad combo. It was poorly understood at best back then,I think it got confused with other things. Being defiant for one thing. Uh no.It’s called “being a teenage girl”.It’s not a hew thing:Think the Beatles, or Elvis, who my mom was a fan of.
My parents didn’t really care all that much they figured I would find something else to move onto eventually(which I did in quite a dramatic fashionI tore down all of my posters and pictures and said that I wasn’t a Duran Duran fan anymore.
Basically, my real life was encroaching on my being a Duran Duran fan.Vividly recall arguing with my parents about not going to the youth group at my church(also prep for confirmation..I was never confirmed and it hasn’t ever been an issue not even when I was godmother to one of my nephews.).After a certain point my parents didn’t push the going to the youth group OR going to Mass every Sunday.
Teachers may have had a point about me being more into Duran Duran than my schoolwork though. Here’s the thing:The teachers I had in middle school were TERRIBLE save for one or two of them,Add in being one of the few people at ny school who liked Duran Duran and yeah,,the rest of many life was a break from school for sure. I couldn’t complain about how I grew up because it was GREAT. It was just school that was an issue for me.
