Had no idea about this but Dustin Lance Black has a documentary about his mom Anna who had a hard start to life-she contacted polio when she was two and was paralyses from the waist down.Was told that she would never be able to do much of anything but she defied her doctors by having a big deal job, getting married and having kids.

However there were a lot of hardships.Anna was in several bad relationships.

Whilst she was in college she was visited by Mormon missionaries who told her that when she died her body would be restored to the way it was pre-polio(or something to that effect)so she wound being baptised into the Mormon church.

It is well known how homophobic Mormons are and Dustin was worried about coming out to his mom but eventually he did. In his Oscar speech he talked about how there was pressure from people on his church to shun her child. Not only was the family Mormon but they were also millitary and this was at a time where you could get kicked out for being gay.

Dustin challenged his mom to change the way she saw the world-through a Mormon prism-and she rose to the occasion and asked questions. One of the stories from the documentary is that Dustin checked the history on her computer and she was looking at pictures of his boyfriend(now husband) Tom Daley.
