There haven’t been any dress code threads in quite a while and now there are lots.Reminds me of when I first was aware of the Cruise Critic Holland America boards. And let me tell you, there have been some doozies in that time.
*points at subject line* There are those that have cruised so long and so frequently that they remember how HAL *used* to be. And they would prefer that HAL stay that way.
Thing is, there are other cruise lines that cater to those sorts of passengers ,whilst HAL innovates .Not necessarily making mega ships(compared to other cruise lines’ ships).HAL’s “large” ships are big but not to the extent that you can get all of your steps in just going to the dining room! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again(and I’m not the only one to say it) :If HAL stayed the same they would go out of buisness very quickly. Longtime diehards have an extreme dislike of change.No new ships, there are a lot of people who love the older ships even though they should have been sent to the scrapyard a long time ago. How non working toilets, A/C etc. is OK with people I will never know.
Then you get to dress codes. There are a lot of people who have certain opinions about dress codes and will be all over any thread on the subject.
One particular poster keeps shilling for the get together he hosts on Gala rights for people who like to dress up.Which is all fine and dandy and I will dress up when i have to.What I have a problem with is people saying that you have to REALLY dress up-tuxes and gowns and the like.
Again:If that’s your thing, great. But giving others endless amount of shit because they don’t dress up as much as you do…that’s fucked up. Repeating myself yet again here but it needs to be said:HAL is not Cunard(and thank fuck for that!)
There is a limit.And I’ve seen dress code posts that are people getting in touch with their inner control freak. “Standards!” They say. Yes, well…..it’s 2022, not 1902. People saying that they like to play at Downtown Abbey/Sure, they’re not hurting anyone doing this but it’s just..weird. And shows how invested people get in that show, and how HAL *used* to be.
