Y’all know I love anything having to do with history and also seeing pictures of San Diego back in the day. It’s amazing to see how much of San Diego was farmlands(and is now built up-Mission Valley for one! ) Or down my the border-Dairy Mart road is named because, well, there was a dairy there at one point.

(See also: Jamacha:Never knew(until recently) that it’s pronounced “ham a shaw”. *and* I’ve lived here most of my life!

Horton Plaza brought out all sorts of feelings in people(every post on the vintage San Diego group that I lurk on mentions getting lost in the parking lot.Which, YES! That was a thing. But the way Horton Plaza was built guaranteed that you would get lost at some point trying to find a particular place.

That’s not even talking about all of the changes they made. Like adding a Sam Goody(ridiculously overpriced) and there was even a Planet Hollywood there for a while(went there *once*. “Underwhelmed” is not even the word for it.) Can’t even remember when the last time I was there was..it was pretty empty, and back in its heyday it was *packed* with people(especially around Christmastime). Horton Plaza had some pretty high end stores so it makes sense that it’d be busy then.

Horton Plaza opened in 1985 and was *the* mall(even with its many quirks). Fashion Valley got a redo in 1997(it was kinda the ghetto mall..if they hadn’t redone it it might have gone the way of Horton Plaza but it didn’t and is easily one of the nicest malls in the area(tied with UTC..UTC got a redo and it is nothing like the UTC I remember from when I was a kid.Crazy thing?Pretty sure that none of the original stores from when the mall opened are there anymore(I remember stores and restaurants that are *long* gone!)
