[Frankly,he’s an amazing Pope]
Sunday, 13 March 2022 08:18Today was the day, 9 years ago, when Pope Francis was elected Pope.And as y’all are aware,I Stan Pope Francis. Love what he has brought to the Church.He’s a breath of fresh air and there are some diehard old school Catholics who DON’T like that. Well,(excuse my language) fuck ‘em. Clearly his haters who would be voting in the conclave were outnumbered by Cardinals who voted for him and..he’s Pope now.Has been for many years now.
Francis is well liked(even with, as I said, the haters who speak up) non-Catholics.Matter of fact,I remember a non-Catholic friend telling me(only a few weeks into his papacy) that she really liked him.Pope Francis has crossover appeal!
Going back to that day..I remember watching CNN and thinking “surely they aren’t going to choose a Pope today” and much to my surprise…white smoke! I had things to do that day so it was a while before I was able to find out who he was and what name he had chosen as Pope. Francis! St. Francis of Assisi has always been one of my favourite saints .He is associated with animals and Francis chose the name because someone told him “don’t forget the poor”. The “less than” is something Pope Francis knows well, the neighbourhood that he ministered in when he was coming up were impoverished.
There are a lot of people who remember him, and knew him personally when he was a priest in Buenos Aires and remember how he had compassion for the poor and “less than”.Something that previous popes *cough Benedict*cough* could learn from. I mean, his Papal motto is “mercy and choosing!”
Lots of firsts:The first Latin-American Pope, the first Jesuit Pope and the first named Francis!
