[Y’all know my feelings about remakes]
Aug. 1st, 2021 08:28 amWhy remake a perfectly good movie?
But I have to say:One movie that I think would do really well if they remade it is the Seventh Sign, the Demo Moore movie from the late 80’s. Oh yeah, it was a flop back then but I’m wondering.. if you took a few things here and there and changed them for today’s sensibilities if it would do better now?
I liked the movie’s mysticism and I’d like to see a lot more of that and more of a background into what Abby’s recurring nightmare/dream means.Obviously it’s her in biblical times..
Perhaps combining characters, and certain jettisoning aspects of the movie that would be seen as not politically correct now, like the kid who is going to be executed(yes that’s a spoiler that movie is over 30 years old) having Down Syndrome because his parents were brother and sister . There’s no indication that that is a risk factor. There are other things but not that specifically.
Also, different locations for the signs(though I did like the frozen village out in the middle of the Negev desert. That was very cool.)
Make it more obvious that it is the end of the world(in the original film nobody except Abby and a few others seem to be aware of it.I’m thinking since this is a modern update you could incorporate the internet into the mix where there are lots of people talking about it; and it’s how Father Lucci(definitely keeping him as a character) finds Abby and how Abby is able to find the scholar who is able to figure out what is going on(and in a nod to it being present day uses a computer program instead of books to translate the scroll.)
What else? Have Abby’s motives be the same..she’s not religious but she has this recurring dream, as I mentioned before and after she wakes up from the dream she said that she felt like death was nearby or something to that effect.
