[Holy moly that was good(pun intended)]
Wednesday, 29 April 2020 10:14Last night PBS had a 2 hour special about the Vatican-now, if you’ve been to the Vatican..it is impressive, no? But this was a behind the scenes look at the Vatican, basically a whole year from Easter to Christmas.The Church gave the film crew a LOT of access-more thank then would normally.
Things I didn’t know:You have to be Catholic to work at the Vatican.This doesn’t surprise me all that much.They have prayers at certain times.I wondered if they did background checks to find out how much anyone who is going to be hired at the Vatican goes to Mass, if they have certain, how shall we say, opinions about the Church.Not going to Mass is probably a big no-no.Though if they really ARE checking up on you, then that’s..I am not sure that I would want to work there(side note:My niece and nephew went to Catholic school and one of the requirements was that they go to Mass every week and if they missed a Sunday-even for a legit reason-they would get a nasty gram from the parish priest(who was a real piece of work).Threats, the whole nine.Talk about Catholic guilt! Fortunately my brother and his wife go to a different church now.)
It is no secret that I like Pope Francis.He is a reformer, which I like.He gets compared to Pope John Paul II who was the Pope for most of my formative years. Loved him, and was very upset when he died.There is a statue of him near the Termini in Rome.I look a picture of it.It’s very obvious that it’s him.
Another thing was the appointing of new Cardinals-one of the Cardinals was from Pakistan(yes! Can’t imagine what being Catholic in Pakistan is like) Madagascar, and Iraq.(Side note 2: San Diego has a large Chaldean Christian population-which is Iraqi of course)
Not sure how to feel about the couple of people they had who were NOT fans of Pope Francis.Fair’s fair I suppose. One of the guys they had was obviously older school(even admitted it).Alright, opinions are like a certain part of the anatomy, everyone has one... But he’s not the only one.There are people close to the Church and even some of the Cardinals that are NOT fans.They talked about Pope Francis dressing them down very publicly. Yet another reason why I love Pope Francis. He gives no fucks whatsoever and when he needs to be “Serious Pope” he is.Kinda wish that his haters would give him credit for that at least.
