[Ooh a dress code thread!]
Friday, 6 March 2020 16:22Luggage restrictions are the excuse people use not to dress up
(Truly, the dressed to the nines stuff DOES weight more. The people who would prefer formal night be TRULY formal night are pushing their opinion on those who are sufficiently dressed for the night. More about that in a minute.)
I’d rather enjoy our cruise than “Dress to impress”
(Add to that, NOT that many people get dressed up to Cunard level-IOW the way the old guard wish it was on Holland America-trying to make Holland America into a Cunard clone.Well, Cunard certainly has its niche market but Holland America is trying to do something different and not be stuck in the past(no matter how badly the old guard want HAL *not* to change.)
I don’t have a problem with people who like to dress up
(Neither do I..but there are people who will not shut up with their opinions about how they HATE that Formal night has turned into Gala night, rinse, wash, repeat.)
As long as they don’t insist that we play along.
(And here’s the thing:There HAVE been a lot of people who browbeat others about the dress code..going to mention the poster that said shorts should never be worn anywhere on the ship except for ones’ cabin. Yes,I bring that up a lot.Because it was so over the top!)
I doubt you’ll find any HAL cruise where 100% of the passengers were in Downton Abbey attire
(Yet some people are so..I hesitate to use the word “delusional” but it fits..they think that they’re having the “Downton Abbey” experience when they are on a HAL cruise.Maybe that was true many many years ago and on some of the older ships, but yeah..seems like a break with reality.Sure, who are they harming with this nonsense? Luckily I don’t think that they actually say that to anyone when they’re on a HAL ship.Only when they post on Cruise Critic.Much like the Dress Code Police which is only, and I do mean only, a thing on the Cruise Critic HAL boards.)
