Apparently on the newer ships you can get a pour over with coffee beans that HAL buys especially. Not sure if this is a new thing since the last time I cruised(and I was on one of the newer ships)..I would have tried it for sure! Apparently Holland is as much a coffee culture as other countries in Europe(I think Italy takes the award though..Italians take their coffee VERY seriously and you can’t get bad coffee in Italy, in my experience.)
There are a lot of people that don’t like HAL’s coffee -or they favour one place over the other(MDR over the Lido.) In my experience they’re BOTH good-in fact if I can fault HAL for anything ,it’s that their coffee is always REALLY hot(which is actually a good thing because it means that the coffee isn’t sitting around for a long time-when you consider how many people are on a cruise ship and how many of those people potentially have a cup or two(or 3 or more-yes really! I have 2 cups of coffee a day and that’s it.) Some would say I ruin the coffee by putting creamer and sugar in it but that’s the way I’ve always taken it and always will.
Coffee is so bad I comment on it on every post cruise survey
(I can just picture the person in charge of reading all of the post cruise surveys and dealing with concerns when they see that the same person has complained about the coffee again. I have a hard time believing that people think HAL’s coffee is bad )
There’s a higher fussy quotient in the MDR than there is in the Lido
(Thing is, to my tastebuds they both taste the same. And it makes me wonder what pax are drinking(coffee wise) that they think HAL’s coffee is bad. I’ve had bad cruise ship coffee-Princess’ coffee is weak sauce.)
