[We get it you think that(non HAL ship) is ugly]
Thursday, 23 January 2020 17:46Multiple comments about the Celebrity Edge and how ugly it is. To each their own but any time the Edge is in port at the same time as HAL ships the discussions get,well, ugly. Especially when it is perceived that a non-HAL ship is blocking the way of being able to see a HAL ship.IMO that is the textbook definition of petty but about what I’d expect from the diehards.Also a poster had sand in their vagina because Celebrity used a “drug song”(White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane) in their ads.
Actually, I take it back.The comment about using a “drug” song is pretty much the textbook definition of petty..well, until someone says something even more ridiculous which will happen as soon as I post this.No,really.
This makes some of the pettiness I’ve seen on the Cruise Critic HAL boards(especially discussions about the dress code) seem minor in comparison(and I’ve seen someone say that shorts should never be worn on a ship(well, you could wear them in your cabin but that was it.) The pearl clutching when HAL announced that that “formal night” was now going to be “gala night” and was not going to be as formal as it had been. To read the comments at the time that was going to be the RUIN of Holland America.But Holland America is still around, and you *do* get a fair amount of people pining for the “good old days” when HAL was more like Cunard than anything else.
Look: Cunard does what they do.They do it very well.And it really IS formal, although even that’s being worn down, little by little. Please don’t go on and on about keeping HAL a Cunard clone(which it sure isn’t.) because Holland America is its own thing.And don’t get me started on the class system they *still* have on their ships. That’s great if you want to play at Titanic, but otherwise..no. I’ve heard people(more than one person) say that they like “playing at Downtown Abbey” when they’re on HAL ships.I’m guessing that applies more to the older ships that the newer ones like Koningsdam.
(Side note:Same with when ships have to use their ships’ tenders instead of the port’s tenders.In that case it’s all about when the ships get to port. It has nothing -and I do mean nothing-to do with whether they dislike the cruise line or not.That’s so fucking dumb.)
Especially if that ship leaves before any of the HAL ships..as I have said many times there are some seriously wound up people on the HAL boards if they think that HAL is getting short shrift because their ships aren’t first to leave *every* time.Apparently she is also slow(again to each his/her own) and that they should be the last ship to leave .
