[Days gone by]

I remember when Horton Plaza was being built /opened.not that many places were open at the time but more got added over time. My favourite spot was a bookstore on one of the lower levels of the mall.It was big and had a HUGE selection.

Since I was there,I remember the places that most have forgotten(I can still recall quite a few of the places that were in the sort of food court area-there was a HUGE turnover of places(see also:Johnny Rockets and Planet Hollywood. I only ever went to a Planet Hollywood once and I was not impressed *and* it was overpriced for what you got.

Highlights for me?The 2-story Levis store. I think that was one of the few places that made it to the very end.The last time that I was at Horton Plaza(many years ago)it was already starting to go into a decline .I remember the days when it was CROWDED and you couldn’t move for people. Now it doesn’t exist and they’re going to turn it into some sort of tech campus. That is some sort of turnaround.

Part of the problem(as it is in a lot of places) is the homeless population which started out in the park in front of Horton Plaza and then eventually into the mall itself. That is where it became a problem. It was bad then and(in a lot of places around here, too) Thing is, there were a lot of factors that led to the demise of Horton Plaza. Not just what I just mentioned. One of the failures(IMO) was putting a several-level Sam Goody store.Overpriced and they were trying to be a lot of different things .Like at one point they had a cafe where you could have coffee or whatever and listen to music on listening stations(and then, if you were so inclined, pay too much for that CD.Yes,I’m throwing shade. No,I don’t care.)
