[It was a thing.]
The gal at Bath And Body Works complimented me on the Duran Duran shirt that I was wearing. It was an old school looking shirt(except I bought it at a Duran Duran concert in 2016-the retro look of it was what made me buy it in the first place!)
I said that back in the day I was one of the only people I knew that liked Duran Duran.Of all the people in my junior high school I was one of only a handfull(a very small one at that) who liked Duran Duran. Junior high school is brutal anyways, but try being an outlier when it comes to your taste in music! I owned it though and as like so many things I just didn’t give a shit( the dislike of Duran Duran extended to all but two of my teachers -my speech teacher had been a Beatles fan back in the day so she understood where I was coming from. My parents were amazingly understanding about me being a Duran Duran fan -my mom was a fan of Elvis back in the day though probably not to the extent that I was about Duran Duran!
God love my boyfriend at the time, too. I look back at him and everything about him is problematic(If I had to guess he had some scrapes with the law/did time. His parents were cool(his mom especially) but his dad was millitary and could be a hard ass at times(to him) but was always pretty nice to me. Coming from a family with supportive parents it was welcome. Some of his(my boyfriend’s) language was..not OK.. whenever I would talk about Duran Duran when I was with him he would call them “f****ts”. It was a different time, that is for sure . I can’t imagine being a make Duran Duran and living in some hinterland of the U.S.(and even not.) It amazed me when I went to a Duran Duran concert back in the day(my first concert!) and I saw lots of people who were fans, with lots of pins on their shirts and jean jackets(for some reason jean jackets were a thing for Duran Duran fans-no, I have no idea why and, yes, I had one, which I had all of my Duran Duran pins on.Before that I would wear them on my shirt -which was sometimes one of my Duran Duran shirts .That drove one of my teachers CRAZY(and I had another teacher who said I was more interested in Duran Duran than I was schoolwork which fair enough,
