[She of the refined palate]
Jan. 23rd, 2022 08:40 amYesterday I went to Wahoo’s which has Mexican food. One of their occasional menu items is albondigas soup.
(Sidebar:I used to LOVE the albondigas at a certain restaraunt but they went out of buisness.I can still remember what that tasted like.Tons of flavour, something different in each bite(and I recall lots and lots of cilantro which I know not everyone likes but I love it.And the meatballs were SO good.It was a close second to the clam chowder for my favourite soup that this place made. I could write whole posts about my love of clam chowder-I consider myself an expert)
Sidebar the second:There is a Mexican food place near my house that makes the best albondigas. It was within walking distance of my house but then it moved. And I haven’t been there since and I hear that the food is not as good.
Fast forwards to yesterday:I ordered the albondigas at Wahoo’s. I also added on some rice(their rice is really good) and had that as a side of sorts.
Real talk?I would give that albondigas soup a 6 out of 10.It wasn’t nearly as good as what I have had in the past. The broth was really good.Lots and lots of flavour, what I would expect, etc. Not as many veggies but what they had was good. The thing that I didn’t care for was the the meatballs. They were stodgy. The sort of meatballs that are in albondigas should almost fall apart. And soak up the flavour from the broth as well. The meatballs I had yesterday were a LOT of filler.I liked the broth, and I would order it again but I’d just take the meatballs out, as insane as that sounds.)
